Breeders of Large Bulldogs  email this discussion to a friend?

Hello bulldog lovers! I breed bulldogs and am actually starting a kennel. I just thought it would be nice to hear from people that share the same intrests. I am going for short, muscular, big headed dogs that are good for show, companionship, easy to love, great with children and that just don't know they are dogs and are very proud. My main man (Rockstar) was born September 5, 2008. He weighs 70 pounds, stands 14 inches tall and has a 15 inch head. Compared to his mother and father he is expected to weigh 140 pounds, stand 16 - 17 inches tall and have a head measuring 28 inches when full grown. He is white with some blue and pure muscle. As soon as I figure out how to put pictures on here I would love to show his pic. So what about you other bully lovers and breeders? What do you have, breed or show and what are they like?

You mean like this? LOL! This is our rescue baby. We got him from a litter at the city pound. He's got a retained testicle and had demodectic mange when he was younger. I've got it under control with diet at this time. He will be neutered this summer because those to conditions are both genetic and we'd not want to pass them down the line. Besides the fact that we are completely unsure of his lineage and wouldn't want to be irresponsible. wink

He's an absolute love and smart as a whip. He waits at the back door, each morning, for my son to come play with him. As soon as my son opens the door he's off like a shot, to get a toy. LOL! Poor dear, he'll be quite sad when he lad goes to school soon. I guess...honeslty...he'll probably be spending some time indoors with ME. He adores me and I him. I'm soon to start training him more, when the lad goes to school. hee. I can't wait, I get he'll excel!! I just love him!!

Good luck with your kennel, it's soooo hard to find responsible breeders now days. Most are just doing it for the money, they think they can get, as opposed to doing it for the sheer love of the breed. You sound like you love them, that's a very good start!!

Chunk!

Chunk o muscle.. haha

He sure is photogenic eh?
And just why are so many of his pics, he is on a chair?? huh?
Must think he is human..rasp

Will he always be prone to getting mange for life now?
The recessed testicle shouldn't ever be a problem I wouldn't think.

He does seem to think that the back porch is his personal living area. LOL! Retained testicles are, for some reason, highly prone to cancer, so I'd like to get that out of there as soon as I can afford to. I witnessed a 50 lb dog have a 3 lb retained testicle removed that was becoming cancerous. It was nasty. LOL!

The dropped testicle is fertile so there IS the possibility of him breeding and passing on the genetic flaw. Highly undesirable AND irresponsible!!!

Many pups "grow out of" the tendency to that mange. It's NOT contagious and although everyone has demodectic mites on their skin the issue is one of immunity. Some dogs are unable to fight off the condition, hence the mange spots. It can be very nasty, sores, crusty oozing places, major hair loss, etc. Since it's an immuninity issue I chose to tackle it by trying different foods. He's now on a food that is more "carnivore" oriented, no corn, more protein, etc. His spots have cleared up and I'm just keeping him on this more expensive, ha ha, food. But it's cheaper than the condition itself and a lot less stress, heartache and time on my part. It's not fun to have to treat demodex.

Don't have one yet tosha, but the breed interests me, although I think I would decide on a mix simply for better health.

In your profile, under photos, you should be able to upload a photo of him there.

Later, when you get more posts, you will be able to upload photos here within a thread. I think it is after 300 or maybe 500 posts. But I still can't upload. Some profiles seem to have lifelong glitches. Hope you have better luck than I have.
Welcome to myLot :)

Hello and thanks for the responses. You are right, I think anyone that could own one, should. They are so wonderful! If you would like to see what I am working with right now go to photobucket.com the username is hurricanebaykennels

my new man that I talk so much about is ROCKSTAR. I love him so much! If you look, let me know what you think please. I am so sorry to hear about your baby! I hate when things like that happen to your pets and there is nothing natural you can do to help them. :( As far as dog food... Exceed is great! One of the best I have found. High in protine too! I feed my dogs more raw food than dog food though. Two meals a day but lots of raw and some dog food. Another think you should look for is this stuff called natures balance. It comes in a 4 pound roll and smells like slim jim. lol. It is very good for them and you can either use it as strick treats for learning ' I do' or you can actually substitute a meal with a portion of this because it is so high in protine and all ' I dont'.
