Celebrate Good Times Come On....Just Pray it Doesn't Rain! email this discussion to a friend?

I am about to embark on a dangerous mission. I am going at it alone so if I am never seen or heard from again you will know that it was insanity induced suicide and not foul play that was the death of me.

But maybe some of you can save my sanity, or at the very least, my life by offering some suggestions.

I am planning a joint birthday party for my sons who are turning 7 and 8 in May.

The problem is that in order to send the invitations to school I have to invite every student in my sons' classrooms. Plus I have the neighborhood children and my best friends kids. After it is all said and done, worst case scenario.....I could have a total of 47 children IN MY HOME/Back yard for this party.

I have a 9 foot by 9 foot inflatable bounce pit (that only holds 4, 50 lb. kids at a time), a limbo game, and a bullseye game. But after that I have no idea what to do for activities. The kids are gonna be here from 2-5.

I am also having a local Spiderman Impersonator show up for 30 minutes. We will have cake and then the kids can build their own ice cream sundae, and we are having hot dogs and hamburgers with chips for food....like a picnic.

Do any of you have any ideas on other activities I can do for the party? How about cheap ways to make 50 treat bags? What about in door activities for large groups of kids if the universe conspires against me and it rains on the party date?

Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Me and my insanity thank you in advance.

do you have a dollar store or dollar tree around you? if so, go there for things to put in the goodie bags. i usually see big bags of candy, as well as little toys and stuff. they might/most likely have the actual bags you can use too. things you can include would be little cars and maybe GI joe-type men for the boys, and any kind of little plastic animal, dolls, or play makeup things for the girls. kids of both genders could use things like crayons or bubbles. a dollar store, or a discount store, like walmart or k-mart should have a lot to choose from available.

for activities, if it doesn't rain, you could do like slip 'n slide. if you choose this, of course, you'd have to have parent supervision to make sure nobody gets hurt and drags wet dirt and grass into your house lol. water guns or balloons could fit into this too, if you'd be willing to clean up the extra mess from the second.

inside(or outside), kinda played out, but pin the tail on the donkey. i see a lot of kids that love this game, no matter how old it is.

you could also have a pinata. if you did this, you wouldn't really have to make goodie bags. fill it up with candy, and allow the kids to pick their own.

you could also have sidewalk chalk out.

you could set up stations of these things so all kids could be doing something at all times. nobody would get bored waiting their turn, or anything like that.

these are just some suggestions. if i think of more, i'll let you know!

and most importantly, GOOD LUCK! lol.

OMG!!!!

"But maybe some of you can save my sanity"

I think we are too late to save your sanity under these circumstances! In your shoes I would be hiring a dj, a function suite and letting them have a disco - not trying to keep them occupied in my home for 3 hours! In fact just thinking about brings on the need to have a lie down ... I will come back with some ideas soon! xxx

Well at least you know you'll have back up there to help.. LOL!! I'll take a look into what indoor games will not make your yellow carpet change colors. I'm cringing at the sunday idea but how about 500 water balloons at the very end so the parent can take home clean kids. LOL!!! Or worst case scenario we can play dogde ball with paint ball guns he he he he he he! Ok that is a bad idea but you can't say you didn't laugh or smile at it now. LOL!!! I'll check into a couple things and see what I can come up with and you know I'll be there to help clean up and to help you get ready. LOL!!! I think all in all we'll get through it.. I'll let you know when Eric's bday is going to be down it'll be at my house in my back yard like I did it last year. Eric's bday is may 9th soit'll ne either then or the later. LOL!! It all depends on my family. See I love the fact that I have a swing set in the back yard so that helps. But I guess you can have a water balloon toss and have little prizes for those who win. My neighbor did a carnival for her daughter's bday party. Um I guess it would depend on how much help you have and what your willing to pay out.. We'll talk more about it later I'll call you tomorrow when the kids are at school.

My twins are 8 so I have kinda sorta already done this. Honestly, sounds like you have the activities covered. You could do some kind of a craft thing though and have the item that the kids made be the treat instead of a treat bag. Or instead of a treat bag buy them a small toy or something. Some toys end up actually being cheaper than assembling a treat bag. And/or you could have a pinata and that way they have fun and some candy to take home too. (this is all just coming out in no kind of order lol)... On the other hand, I could just ask my twins this evening and then come back to the discussion with ideas from somebody who is that age instead of somebody who is old enough to be their grandma. lol

Yes ask your twins please. I have asked my boys and they want to play laser tag, and have a corn maze, play dodge ball (which I have outlawed ever since being the fat kid in dodgeball in grade school)and then play war which is just them beating each other with plastic swords and throwing pine cone bombs at the neighborhood girls from behind a cardboard fort.

So as you can see, none of their ideas are going to work unless I move to a farm with 10 + acres before the end of May.

I'm thinking my kids are going to say Chuck E Cheese and/or Laser Quasers (ie laser tag), but I'll ask. Who knows, they might surprise me!

Oh wow, you are brave, I think I would have rather taken cookies or something to the school classroom if allowed, and then just have the neighborhood kids for the party. Oh well, best of luck to you.
When I was young,we played go fishing. You can use a large box decorated like a pond setting or I have seen some hang a shower curtain, and weight the bottom so no peeking underneath. Make a fishing pole from a cane or yard stick and add string and a clothespin to the end. The child holds the fishing pole over the curtain or into the box,and an adult puts a little gift onto the clothespin and pulls on the line so then the child pulls the "fish/prize) over and takes the prize. Also this helps if you have a girl or boy little gift and know which is on the pole end of the line.
I don't know if you have time to order but Oriental Trading has lots of small toys and things for decorating. If not time to order, Party City or Dollar Tree would be great for picking up little prizes. Some things you can find in a package of several and that helps you have more variety. I think Walmart has some and so does Toys R us.
Another thing they could play is a memory game. Give each child a pencil and paper. You bring out a tray with several items on it. Give them a few seconds to look over the items. Then cover the items with a napkin or cloth. They are to write down as many things as they remember seeing.
Good luck with your party!! Hope you are still with us afterwards!!

My kids were not much help. Naomi said "watch a movie", Cary said "Laser quasers" and my husband said (when asked what they did at the last couple parties he took the kids to) "they didn't do anything"... Sorry...
