Betting on a horse race - one of the biggest of the year - do you bet?

Tomorrow in England is the Grand National. This is a horse race that has many horses running and if you never bet all year around you bet on this horse race. A lot of firms do sweeps where you buy a horses name and if that horse wins you win a percentage of the money.
Do you have special times when you put a bet on? whether it is a race with humans horses or even cars.

Oh it looks like Derby. Though I dont bet, I love to watch horse race as sports. I not even seen one person who won horse race and become rich.

I dont think my bet on it if it won would make me rich as I only put £1 each way and so far my horse has always come near last or fallen over before it finishes.
