Is it true that New York City people are rude? |
|
I've been reading a lot of comments from foreign people about the nicest people in the world and I read that New Yorkers are not on the them. Some say that when they are asked for direction or for help by a stranger, they simply ignore or yell at them. Is true? Can anyone give a explanation about this behavior?

1. Vardanology (482) | 10 months ago | i think it's true.people in New York are in stress usually...you know...bussiness,house mortgage hehe also rich people are sometimes rude,cz they don't like to talk to other people.New York is also dangerous city, stranger who's asking you something can easly be a criminal and steal your wallet )) that's why people are trying to stay away from troubles. P.S. one of the reasons is TIME...New Yorkers got no time lol time is twice faster for them...time is money, they strongly believe in that...actually i do believe in that too lol By the way...what city are you from?are people in your city friendly? I'm from SF and here we got no problems=D

| aldztrust (30) | 10 months ago | Im from Cebu City in the Philippines. I can say that there are a lot of rich and poor people in here but they usually treat people nicely. People are very friendly especially to foreigners. While Americans are hated specially in the middle east, here, we don't have that kind of feeling. We are taught by our parents to respect people especially those older than us. You can visit our City if you have time. We have nice beaches and a warm sunshine here.
And people are friendly.

gusuifengpiao (562) | 6 months ago | I agree with you on some points.Time is money for them and New Yorkers are always under a lot of stress.Maybe that's why they ignore strangers. I am taught by my parents not to trust strangers.Being kind to others in big cities also means that you will be easily cheated or hurt by strangers. Not all of them are kind. Some turn to you for help doesn't really need your help.I have seen many people hurt by strangers, who are actually criminals, when they offer their help. The more advanced the city is,the more complicated it is.We need to protect ourselves in big cities. I don't know if I will listen to my parents' advise. It is a little hard for me to turn a deaf ear to others' requests. But I guess I have to do this when I go to a big city. Have a nice day! Sarah

| aldztrust (30) | 10 months ago | Thanks a lot for the nice response that you gave. Im from the Philippines and I can say that my country is a lot poorer than any other jobless people in your country. Although we are poor, we always try to make sure we treat others as kinds and as nice as we want to be. Being poor and having a lot of problems doesn't warrant people to treat other people badly. Maybe some people are taking their problems too seriously that they forget about the bright side of life.
May cool heads and peace of mind beget us all...

3. Reesers (966) | 10 months ago | I've been to New York City several times and have never experienced anything like that. It's been quite the opposite. On the other hand, I can see where people might get that idea when they pass those on the streets trying to sell something. They can be really pushy and irritating.
Like someone already said, there's nice and rude people wherever you go. Usually there's always someone who is willing to help.

6. mermaidivy (3298) | 10 months ago | I have heard of it before but I never found out if it is true or not since I haven't been there before. Maybe it is just very busy all the time, people won't even spend couple minutes to give you directions? I don't know. I asked somebody before if "New Yorker" this name has any special meaning behind it, he told me it usually means j e r k.

7. my_name_is_coco (2599) | 3 months ago | I think everywhere in the world there are rude people.some are just being mean and some just can't be bothered because they are busy.in new york,I think most of them are in a hurry because they are rushing to earn their money.they are harassed and stressed from work,so they tend to snap at others.
