Can Gautam Gambhir emulate Gavaskar?  | |  Whether Gautam Gambhir emulates Sunil Gavaskar or not has to be seen after a couple of years. During the master Gavaskar's time, there were no helmets to wear for the batsmen and they had to face great fast bowlers. Therefore it may not be fair to compare these two batsmen. Gavaskar is a class by himself and Gautam is no doubt a wonderful batsman.

I think Gambhir don't have the capability of scoring 36 runs afetr facing 60 overs. You take it in other way. What I mean to say is given a chance to be at the pitch for a longer time without going for big shots is not his cup of tea. He is a great batsman.
Gavaskar was a master of this game. You can't compare him with anyone whether he Gambhir or someone esle. The way he played at his time was impeccable. He has always played his natural game.
Gambhir plays in his own style. He doesn't copy anyone.

| | | 3. pratik87 (825) | 9 months ago | it would be very difficult to commpare these two batsmen and as you rightly pointed out that there were no helmets in the old days and the west indies bowling was menacing to say the least. gavaskar has scored double centuries against those bowlers and has a very good record in test match cricket. gambhir on the other though has improved a lot in the last year or so is still at somewhat the start of his career and he has the potential to go a long way further. | |

 stardustcdsd (546) | 9 months ago |  cant change the people it seems.when sehwag hit 69 ball hundred a few years back,they immediately started comparing him with sachin and even called him as the next sachin though they dont have much common in the way they play cricket.such is the case with gambhir and gavaskar.the only thing common is the G in their name and both r opening batsmen.one is aggressive and one is like a impenetrable wall.one played the best ever bowlers in the history of cricket while the other is playing some ok bowlers.see
its very hard to compare them.i think it all started when they said gambhir reached 2000 runs quicker than the lil master.

| pratik87 (825) | 9 months ago | yes it is quite some feat that gambhir has achieved by scoring 2000 runs quicker than sunil gavaskar. but comnig to sehwag he was said to be the next tendulkar soon as he came into the cricket world in south africa when sachin was injured. for a moment i thought it was sachin playing when i saw sehwag for the first time. sehwag is similar to aschin in many ways . they have many physical similarities and coming to batting sehwag destroys the opposition which is what yendulkar used to do as a young cricketer which is the reason sehwag was called the next tendulkar. | |
