Bad News from SSDI sent me to the Emergency Room

United States
April 9, 2009 7:11am CST
Yesterday my husband got denied again for Social Security Disability. It has been over 3 years now with him battling for his benefits. I ended up getting so sick with nerves I had to go to the hospital. I cant believe this that they would deny him again. After he worked all his life and paid into the system. Meanwhile I see others that are not even sick and get it. I am about to call the news!

That is so sad. I am sorry to hear that your fighting to get him on. Thats the problem Its people who need it that have to battle to get on. And the ones who are not that sick get on easily. Have you thought about using a lawyer to fight for you to get his social security disability. I would call the news sometime they can help and find out what is going on. I just think it is a shame that the people who need it more should get it. Especially he has credits in from working so long. Good luck to you. Keep fighting.

Your welcome Happy Easter. I am glad to hear that you will be perusing it further. They can't do that to him and not give it that is wrong. I will pray for you and your family. Best luck to you in getting what he deserves.

Sometimes you need an attorney to get SSD to help. It took my daughter over three years to get hers but once it was done it has not been hard to maintain, she just has to have her doctors reevaluate and go to the SSD doctor for a check up once every three years.

I feel for you...Hubby went through the same thing. He had paid in just about all of his life and yet when he really needed it, they acted like he was asking for a handout. I also see and know ppl that have never paid a dime into it and they brag about getting a check every month. I don't think that's right. I think if they haven't paid into it, they shouldn't be able to take someone else's unless it's your spouse or parent (for those kids who have lost a parent). Did you have a lawyer? That's the key if you have a lawyer it'll move faster. My mom got disability and it took her 3-4 years and several appeals. I'm sorry it's got you so stressed. I understand as during that time I was in tech school full time, working a minimum wage job full time, and supporting us while living in section 8 housing from when I was a teenager. I hope you are feeling a lil better despite the situation.

Oh and BTW... Octomom paid for all her IFV treatments from her "disability" settlement for her back. That doesn't sit well with me, you don't get knocked up that many time if you have a "bad back" IMHO.

hello moneymommy i am so sorry to hear about your hubby's disability benefits. surely there is something that you can do about that. like you said, spread it everywhere! call your local news stations. is there an appeal process that he can go through? that just isn't correct at all for somebody that needs to be on disability not to be able to receive it, like your husband. and i am so sorry to hear that your nerves put you in the hospital. my stress level right now on a scale from 1 - 10 is a 10! lol so what did they do for you at the emergency room? thanks for sharing. take care and have a beautiful day today!

Sorry it took so long to respond to all the nice responses. I had to gather my composure. We do have a lawyer as well as a representative. We will be appealing once again. I am still thinking about contacting the news and a congressman. I am just totally in shock he didn't get approved again. This is so sad and just not right. Oh and the er just made sure nothing was seriously wrong with me and then sent me home. They said to breath into a bag or something like that.

Trust me - I know exactly how you are feeling in this situation. My dad just recently passed away a few months ago but 7 years ago he was diagnosed with mal syndrome which causes a person to go blind, deaf, and have strokes and seizures so he was completely incoherent. I think my family battled for at least 2 years to get his disability payments because he couldn't drive and with each new seizure things just kept getting worse and for some reason they kept denying us up until the point he had OVER $30,000 in doctor bills and no way to pay them. And what is worse is he has 3 children and when they gave us food stamps they decided $200 a month for a family of 4 was fine and then about 2 years before he passed away that got cut down to about $40 a month. Its ridiculous how the system works. But your husband isn't the only one that is having a problem. And I have a feeling its just going to worse because of how the economy is going.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. The government can be a little prejudice and hypocritical when making decisions with SSD. It is amazing how people who have lived all of their lives working and paying taxes in this country hoping that when our times comes to withdrawl we will get out benefits. Good luck to you.

well I don't know about people not being sick, many disabilities you do not see like mine, I have fibromyagia and osteroarthritis, you don't see it but it is debilitating and I can't work. maybe you need to get a lawyer to fight it at this points.

ten years ago, they really didn't accept it as a disability but things are changing it is more and more accepted, it is worth a shot, try and keep trying until you get it.

I have the same things you to winterose and I am thinking about trying to get SSI I tried when I was first diagnosed 10 years ago to get on it and at the time they said I didn't have enough work credits, I read on THEIR website that a wife can pull off her husbands credits and when I brought that to the ladies attention she said NO NO that's not true you misunderstood it. She also said I wasn't old enough to get it. Now that I think back on it I was lied to by her and I should have just kept on applying until I got it, maybe even got a lawyer. Everyone I know who has FMS says they get SSI or SSD but it's all older women so I'm not sure if I should go after it or not. Anyway it's nice to know I'm not the only one out there with FMS and OA I hope you have a not so painful day today.

I don't know if you have an attorney or not but if you don't I suggest you get one. In Illinois I know someone who got an attorney who dealt in nothing but disability claims. The person I know won their case and Social Security had to pay the attorney. Good luck.

I wonder why it's so hard for decent people who have a legit reason to be on it can't get it? I'm sure that the state has it's stupid reasons that make perfect sense to them but really why is it so hard? It's money that doesn't belong to them it belongs to the people and yet the people can't have it when they have proof they need it. Some one needs to do some digging not just anyone but maybe that Meyers guy would dig into it and find out why and expose it to the world. Then maybe everyone could get on it who need it and the one's who don't need it would get kicked off. I think it's a matter of who you know who works in the system, if you know someone they will pull the strings for you if you don't then your just tossed aside. Why do we have to prove anything to them why should we have to prove we need OUR money?? It just makes me so mad when I really start thinking about it.

I am so sorry that you have this problem. Isn't there a social worker or anyone that can pout your case to the Board? I think that you should go public and then maybe someone will listen. Call the local tv station and local newspaper and see if they will help you. I do hope tha tyou will get this sorted out so that he can receive the benefits that he is entitles to get. Blessings

I know what you mean! I see alot of people on SSDI and don't deserve to be on it! I work with a women who's son is on full SSDI! He shouldn't be on full SSDI! The guy did lose one leg an accident like 15 years ago but the dipstick could work some! I also worked with a women who had 2 adult children on SSDI and their wasn't anything wrong with them! The goverment needs to over haul SSDI! Like your husband he deservers but can't get it! It isn't fair! Not fair at all! The goverment wastes to much money on things they shouldn't just like SSDI!

Hi moneymommy..It sounds like its quite a struggle in the states to get disability benefits..Thats why they are called disability benefits to be paid as benefits to people who are disabled. Hearing so many stories of people who are denied, makes me wonder what they do with the money that is available to go towards the program. It is not necessary that we lose a limb to be considered disabled. There are many different factors to consider. I sure hope you have luck in the future. Every time I hear a story like that, I think of the commercial on TV thats on a 100 times a day for Jim Sokolov..."I fix problems"...lol GOod luck and I hope he gets it soon.

Ugh, anxiety is the worst. I have been in the hospital for it before, too. I think you SHOULD call the news, there clearly isnt much you can do about the situation yourself!
