Is it just me or does radio suck these days?  

I agree. The radio is getting worse and worse. I don't listen to the oldies but even the stations that play modern music only play the popular bands that have money backing them. It makes it extremely hard for new artists to get heard. I also am not really into the 'Popular' music and I have found most of my bands by looking at Indie bands. Hanson, Everybody Else, The Morning Of, Honor By August...all of these have great music and none of them are on any station. It is such a challenge to get heard nowadays that its no wonder so many people want to get on American Idol, Nashville Star, etc. Its the only way to get a lot of people to hear you and your name. Its crazy and so not right.

Every station has it's own genre. And some oldies songs are a lot more popular than others! It all depends on what people want to hear! Often times they base what they play on how often people request those particular songs.

That's exactly why I got Sirius, I just couldn't stand the commercial stations anymore.

I think it's so weird how my local "Oldies" station now plays 80's music as part of their lineup. I don't consider 80's music oldies at all! When I was younger, this same station would play 50's and 60's music, which was awesome. Now they've designated all of that to a simple "2-hour block", while playing stuff from the 70's and 80's the rest of the time. I hate it!

The radio is really dull, yea. I hate how the SAME songs are played over and over and over again, especially the bland piano-rock crooners (not naming any names)! I generally listen to a few streaming radio stations instead of the actual radio, because they offer a better selection and usually have no commercials. It's unfortunately that the Clear Channel monopoly has lead to really bland monotone programming, but thankfully the internet is always there. I've heard that satellite radio has a far better selection, but I haven't tried it for myself yet.

It's been a while since the last time I listen to a radio. just don't have the time to sit and listen to it. If I hear a new song, I just download it and listen to it through or using my music gadget.

I was a radio listener before, it was one of the things that became a part of my day life -- but that was before when i wasn't very busy.

I have never been a fan of mainstream radio. Anything in the top 40 or anything extremely popular normally grates on my nerves haha. The only time I hear the radio these days is when it's on at work, or in a supermarket and I don't have the choice of what to hear.
I hate that so much stuff sounds the same these days. While I have a VERY broad range of music in my collection, a lot of it is either underground stuff, or stuff you would not find on radio these days.
