Social media website widgets are like add-ons that you can have on your website to attract more people and to make them glued on to your blog or website.

One of the most popular is the Yahoo Widget, which can be created with ease. All you need to do is take the code from yahoo and integrate it into your webpage. Most of them are photo codes that will make your text appealing and draw attention. Also known as a gadget, there are different ways of using Social media website widgets.'

In regards to websites and blogs etc widgets can be a few different things - they can be a way to make it easier to add certain code to your site or blog - often they are a blank area that you can paste code into that then shows up within certain sections of your website/blog - they can be like a little box that a chosen company/ affiliate site/social network etc creates where again you just add their piece of code to your site.

For example if you have a wordpress blog you can add widgets to the sidebars of your blog - some of these widgets are in essence already made for you - things like recent posts or a calender or category or rss feed etc - some are blank so if you were say using adsense - you'd paste your code into a blank (text) widget so the ads then show up in your sidebar - it means you don't have to add that piece of code every time you create a new post or page - it's already there for you.

You can actually search online about what is a widget. Well, here is what I got my my research. It says that widgets are live updates on a website, webpage or desktop. It is a neatly organized content or application selected by you (the user).
