Breaking The Magicians Code

They've been airing this particular show here all year, and even though they are re-runs that were originally aired over in the UK first, I wondered how many other's have seen this show and what do you think of it? I have to say I really enjoy it because it really shows just how talented Magicians really are. I also watch Masters of Illusion and there are still some tricks that I can't figure out, so this show hasn't caused me to stop enjoying the talent of magicians. What do you think? If you are practicing magician do you think poorly of him for doing the show? Does it take away or does it make you work you harder at your craft? Namaste-Anora

I haven't seen that show but I have seen a movie called "Prestige" or "Pride", I can't recall the name exactly but it was based on two magician's fight. They were fighting each by their shows to get more and more audiences to them. In progress they have shown the trick and tips of certain dangerous magics. Although most of them we can't apply at home but still it was worth knowing, don't they?

Yes and I was really amazed when I saw too many hats outside tessla's lab and the way he said, "Choose anyone, all are yours"! Excellent movie and I had to use subtitles to understand the meaning of this movie. When I was a child then I could do some magic tricks and made my family members a fool when i cut a rope and convert them into one single rope! That was the time when i felt proud but after that I stopped practising and now I can't remember how I did that. I am still good in predicting numbers you will think!

I loved the movie "The Prestige", it came out the same time the Ed Norton movie came out called "The Illusionist". I liked both, but I loved "The Prestige" because of the focus on the "prestige" or show stopper. It was an interesting competition, but in all fairness Hugh Jackman's character did loose his wife early on in a stunt gone wrong. The true dangers of performing some of these magical tricks. I also loved how they worked Tessla into the story line. That was fantastic!! I like the smaller tricks. Obviously, I'd never recommend anyone doing the more dangerous tricks unless they study with a magician and are doing it, but the smaller ones such as card tricks, etc can be easily learned so it seems. Though, again I don't think I'd be smooth enough to pull them off lol. I'll leave it to the true artists. Namaste-Anora

Hi Anora. I'm not sure if that's the same show I've watched a few months ago. It's good to have shows like this for they make us aware of how those tricks are done. But still, there are a lot of very talented magicians who have fresh ideas and tricks that are simply mind-boggling. Thanks. Have a wonderful day.

Oh, I so agree there are so many talented magicians today. And I think they'll always be coming up with new tricks that stun the audiences and leave us scratching our head on how they are done! Thanks for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it. Namaste-Anora

I've seen shows like this before too. Is this the one with the guy that wears the black mask with white markings on it? I do enjoy it also because it's amazing to see how straightforward some of these tricks actually are. You can't help but think up all these weird and complex angles to try and work out how a trick is done, yet more times then not, it ends up being something so simple! I can appreciate other people in the industry having an issue with this show revealing "secrets", but I do also appreciate the show's creators saying that new and better tricks will end up being developed because of it. Chris Angel is the one I'd love to work out. Many of the things he does just blow my mind.

Yeah, the title I gave here is the original one used in the UK, but here in America I believe it is called Magic's Biggest Secrets Revealed. (You know, old show, new title lol). None the less, I agree some of them look so difficult then you see them are like-doh! Like the shoe string through a straw that is cut in half. I was amazed that it was so "easy", and yet at the same time I'm not sure I'm smooth enough to pull it off. Kudos to Chris Angel, that man is really good. Of course, I grew up on the magic of David Copperfield. I always found him amazing, even if it is all illusion. Thanks for responding. Namaste-Anora

Thanks for the response. I am hoping he'll make some new ones, but it's difficult to tell where they are going with it. I've only seen them repeat one or two shows here in the US, but I enjoy them. Each time I find myself studying them carefully before he reveals trying to figure them out myself. It's kind of like solving a riddle. None the less I still enjoy seeing a good magic show. They just amaze me. Namaste-Anora

Hi Anora. I have watched that show when it was on and I really enjoyed it. I know some will say it ruins the illusion but who can rally say to themselves that they do not want to know how a magic trick is preformed. I found the show to be really interesting and I agree that a magician has to have great skill and timing to preform the way they do. Its a bit like wrestling, we know it is fake but it is entertaining and we have to appreciate the skill that is involved.

I agree! I've always wanted to know how some tricks were done, like sawing a woman in half, etc. I mean, these women have to be contortionists to fit into those boxes. And they definately can't be afraid of small spaces lol. I've never been able to be to a real show, but I enjoy watching them on television. Some of these magicians are truly artists and they are truly enjoyable to watch. Thanks for responding. Namaste-Anora

I always had fond memories of David Copperfield. I use to love his big specials when they were on TV. His shows always entertained and the illusions were always on a grand scale. When I was younger I was just simply blown away with some of his magic. Thanks for the BR

Well, I was referring to magic in the terms of show magic that you see in such shows as Masters of Illusion. I agree that in the mystery traditions "magick" is an entirely other force, and truly it's own discussion. We all have the ability to practice/live magick and live life to its fullest. Thank you for responding. Namaste-Anora
