What will you do if you just witnessed a crime?

I know this is one of the hardest situations anyone can encounter, but sometimes it is unavoidable.
Let's say that while you're on a certain place, you saw a man pulled a trigger to another man to death. Unfortunately, the killer saw you but for some reasons you were not caught.
A few hours later, you learned that the killer is a high ranking official in the military. Then, you realized that the victim was accused of stealing but has not yet been proven guilty. Incidentally, the victim is a family man who have children depending much on their father and was reportedly missing two days before the crime.
Now, will you have the guts to go to the police and report the crime you saw? Or will you run away since you fear for your life and family? Assuming that you are only a simple citizen with an average way of living, will you trust the Justice system that you will win the case?

I will just report.. Why should i hide the truth when i'm the one whom saw it?? After all, he's the one guilty of murder while i'm just an eyewitness.. And if he were to harm me or my family members, the very first person i will suspect will be him.. Of course, i will need to tell that to police officers when i'm reporting it..
Also, most cases, there will be a witness protection force to protect witness in any kind of situation til the case it over.. haha =D
