I think that both Cliff Burton and Jason Newstead made Metallica the head banging band it has become to be today. If I had to make a choice between the 2 of them it would be hard. Even though Cliff was the original bass player, Newstead was as big a part as Cliff. I would have to say Cliff was the best bass player of all time.

 modstar (4959) | 8 months ago |  Oh come on, no need to become sarcastic. Dave Mustaine's Megadeth is still rock solid. Unfortunately for Metallica, they have gone soft while Megadeth is still true to the speed thrash game. If you compare Metallica and Megadeth's album released 2001 onwards, Megadeth's albums are by far better. St. Anger is a disappointment. Very poor drum sound. You cannot underestimate Dave Mustaine just because he was kicked out of Metallica. It's a blessing in disguise.

I was privileged enough to actually got to seen Cliff Burton play live in concert during the Ride the Lightning tour. I have got to meet the band personally in Daytona Beach,FL. after the Justice For All tour. Jason Newsted is a really person in real life. I am going in October to check out their latest tour to check out Rob. He was awesome in Suicidal Tendencies, and a great addition to Metallica! in my opinion if Cliff burton would have not been killed in the bus accident, I think he would still be rocking out with Metallica today, but who really knows!!! My pick is Cliff Burton R.I.P.
