Anyone use a Voice recognition software? Vist Voice vs Dragin Naturally Speaking |
| |
| For those writers out there that get tired of typing after a while or for anyone who likes to chat without typing, do you use a voice recognition software? Anyone who has Vista on their computer already has Vista Voice and all you need is a headset with a microphone. I just recently got my headset for my Vista Voice but am thinking of getting the Dragon Naturally Speaking software because I heard it works much better. Does anyone use Vista Voice for writing or chatting or do you use the Dragon Naturally Speaking software instead? If so which do you like better? I am having a hard time getting used to the Vista Voice. It works with wordpad pretty well but I am used to writing with MS works word processor because it has a word count. But when I tried to use the vista voice with the MS works word processor you have to say one sentence at a time until a box pops up and you have to click on the sentence you want to use. I don't like having to do that because it takes longer. I am trying to get used to using the wordpad but I like knowing how many words I am writing while I write them. I guess what I could do is talk the story or article out with wordpad and then copy and paste into MS works to use the word count on there. Have you used voice on your computer? How does it work for you? | | | | | |

| | Do you have Vista on your computer? If so then all you need is a headset with a microphone. You can find them on ebay pretty cheap. I got mine for $7.30 and it is a noise canceling microphone. Just do a search on ebay for noise canceling headsets. Ok if you have Vista then click on start, all programs, accessories, then go down to ease of access and click on that and then you will see "windows speech recognition" and if you already have a headset then all you do is hook up your headset to your computer and click on the windows speech recognition and go through the tutorial. You can train your speech recognition to learn your voice. It works good with wordpad and notepad but not too good with Microsoft Works word processor. If you don't have Vista then you can find the Dragon Naturally speaking software on ebay. Let me find the link for you: http://computers.shop.eba... I know it is a long url but that is the link to dragon on ebay. They have some expensive ones but if you scroll down there are some cheap ones on there you can bid on. I don't know much about dragon but I have heard it works better than vista voice. Good luck and if you have anymore questions, let me know and I will try to answer them. :) | | | |

| | I have Vista and a microphone but I haven't tried out the voice recognition software just yet. I'll try it out soon when I'm alone. I've actually never tried any sort of voice recognition software but the area has always interested me. I guess one reason I haven't tried it is because I don't get a whole lot of privacy where I live and I would feel a bit awkward sitting at my computer talking to it with other people around even if they knew what I was doing. | | | | | | |

| | I have the same problem here but I use mine at night when my husband is sleeping. I also have six dogs but they are sleeping at night too so that is the best time to use it. I don't like the vista voice as much as I thought I would so I might dish out the money for dragon. :) | | | |

| | I have used the earlier version of Dragon naturally speaking and find that it was a good voice recognition software. You basically have to "train" the software to get it adjusted properly to your voice in order to use it in optimum way. the problem is when you catch cold then it will not be able to recognize your voice properly and consequently it will not be able to type properly the words you said ;P | | | | | | |

| | One of my best friends uses Dragon and she has had the same problem when she has a cold. She has arthritis in her hands and needs Dragon to talk out her articles and stories. When she had a cold during the winter she couldn't use her Dragon and had to type everything out. She occasionally does type some things out but uses her Dragon every time she can. I really don't like Vista Voice and am thinking of dishing out the extra money for Dragon. :) | | | |
