coach not pushing athletes enough? what to do?

I recently went to my son's swimming practice and I quickly realized how lazy his swim coach is. He writes a set on the board and then walks away to do other work. I feel that my son is not receiving the feedback that he needs and he simply is not getting pushed hard enough at practice because he is the best on the team. I cannot switch teams for him right now because I don't have much extra money to spend but I am very disappointed at his coach. What do I do!?!?
