Just recently as my writing bug has bitten me I have created links from my webpage to help boost my page views. And now it's nice some sites are connected to Myspace and other sites that allow you to keep your friends updated. My page views went pretty high by sending out bulletins.
Nice stuff.
How else do you promote your freelance writing?

Posting a link on Twitter is one thing I sometimes do. There are a lot of blogs I subscribe to and read and comment on. People often reciprocate to that. Networking, showing the interest in others...that has worked well for me. Plus I write on Ezines and Helium. I have also joined Blog Catalog and several other similar sites. If friends "digg" or "stumble" your work, this is good promotion, too, but it is frowned upon to do that yourself.
Just keep interacting with others and joining reputable sites to get your work seen.

I have several blogs and do writing for other sites such as Xomba.com, and one thing I do is to post comments in related blogs. So I'll post a comment on a music blog, and put the URK of my own music blog in the field where it asks you to put your homepage. But I don't try to promote my blogs in comments unless it's really appropriate; that can turn people off. I figure if people like my comment they'll check out my blog.
And as another commenter mentioned, posting a headline and link to your article on Twitter can be helpful, too.

By putting links in my myLot profile page, give it a try.
