Have you ever had or do you have an herb garden?  email this discussion to a friend?

I don't, but I have always wanted one.
I don't care whether its an outdoor garden or just a windowsill garden or even one
of those cute little greenhouse herb gardens.
If you do have one, what do you have planted in them and do you ever use them for
your food or medicinal purposes?

I have one of those areo gardens in my kitchen, and i have mint, chives, oregano, dill, and parsley growing in it right now, and when ever i need any of them all i do is cut off . I just love being able to have the fresh herbs when i need them.

Wow, that's great.

Do you find you use more of one herb than another?

I use oregano, thyme, basil, mint, cloves, parsley and sometimes mint.

I also use white sage in some relaxation rituals I do as it is a calming scent.

Thank you for you response.

Congratulations.

My grandparents were the gardeners and I always loved to help with the garden when

I was younger.

I ended up with my one grandmothers black thumb so if something does grow its

deformed...LOL.

I hope yours works out.

Good Luck.

Thanks for your response.

I also would like an herb garden. The problem with growing nothing but ornamental plants is that they mostly don't do anything else than to beautify the place and well play a role in the ecosystem stuffs! Herbs however are beneficial because they can be used as remedies for simple ailments and that would be cheaper than buying the ready-made ones in the pharmacy.

I guess you could start with spices: garlic, onion, ginger, turmeric, because they too have medicinal properties.

myLot reputation of 66/100. Tamarama34 (111)   ranked 1,121 out of 1,674 in gardening  3 years ago

Wow, those spices sound great, what is turmeric anyways???

My friend has her own herbal gardens and she uses them for medicines.

Hi,:-) well turmeric looks like ginger. Only, its flesh is VERY orange in color unlike the pale yellow color of ginger. It is the spice responsible for the curry flavor. It is widely used in Indian recipes.

actually I have had a herb garden several times over the yrs and will be having one again this yr actually....Last yr our gardens didnt do so well...not just the herbs but the veggies too..we had a very very wet season so that is most likely the reason..Hopefully this yr it wont be so soggy and we'll have success...

i use the herbs I grow for various reasons....seasonings, medicinal and magikal...
