Money saving is our priority now

In the current research, majority of Americans don't save. They don't have a retirement saving account, and they merely live by paycheck by paycheck. Why don't you ask yourself one question. If the paycheck stop now, how long do you think you can last? One week? two weeks? Or maybe you can't even breath the financial oxygen? Why not think about the future, and save yourself some money. It is a way to save yourself too.

it may be true that some people do not save for their long term future. however, the prevailing values and lifestyles in america do not encourage saving money. living a life like a beach or living a dream at present is what majority of americans have known. maybe, the recession may show the necessity of savings. the federal government can only do so much. we need to stand up on our own in times of crisis like this. but savings only come when we have income. unemployment does not cause any savings for unemployed citizens.

You are partially right. Most people forget about the working poor. They don't chose to not to save, they don't earn enough to save. Surviving is their focus. They work extremely hard for very little. They have no choice but to live paycheck to paycheck because they don't earn enough money to do anything else. They earn too much for assistance and too little to live anywhere decent. Some had decent jobs, but with the recent economic turmoil, they lost their jobs. They had to spend what savings they had. They are forced to take whatever job they can get, which is usually a service job like retail (Wal*Mart or Target). Unless you're management, retail doesn't pay.
