Do you use timers/have you used them?.  

I haven't used timers in a long time, but I do have a lamp hooked up to my garage door opener so when I get home I don't have to walk into a dark house. Also my outdoor lights can be set to turn on when it gets dark.

i think they are a great thing but i never have had one. i use to hate coming in from work to a dark house. of course in the winter it was dark most every day. they would have been great to have. glad u had them. i'm not out after dark very often now so i don't need them. have a happy weekend, chevee.

That is one thing I don't have as I am in the house most time and oly got during the day and whe I do go out in the evening, my husband is normally home then but if we are both out in the evening, I just leave my hall light on.

When I worked swing shift I had one of those timers hooked up with my coffee maker so that I could have hot fresh coffee when I got home I haven't used one in years, and don't really have a need for them now that I am basically at home 24/7

I've used timers in the house I own in Halifax, Va. Since no one is living there, I worried about it. But, since my son's car, the one he left down there when he moved up here to help me with my mother when she got sick, was broken into by a stupid punk kid who lived down the road a ways, and having the police all over the place, I'm not worried anymore about it. The neighbors all know I live in Winchester and am planning on selling the place, so they kind of keep an eye out for me. Plus, it sits way back from the road. I do have those light sensor things that turn out outside lights when it gets dark, so they may help.

I never thought to use a timer on a crock pot. That's an AWESOME idea, Chevee! Thank you so much for sharing that little tip!!! I'll definitely be using it. I love using my crock pot... throw the stuff in there, turn it on and forget about it until it's done.

I don't use timers for the lights in this house because I have solar-powered lights outside, plus nightlights throughout the house that come on when it gets dark. Living with my two little hairy, barking doorbells helps to make me feel pretty secure when it gets dark. They alert me to any strange sounds they hear outside.

But, I do think that these timers are wonderful things! When it gets dark, you don't have to stumble around in it to turn on lights.

I have had programmed thermostats, same principle. I have not used timers except for Christmas tree lights. I can understand you doing as you did, though, it is an excellent idea, it makes you safer and saves you money too. I have a stove that has a built in timer that you can set and forget, but I do not use it.

Yup! I sure do! I time my washing machine so I'll know when it's done so I can either hang my clothes outside or put them in the dryer. I time my cooking so I won't burn anything or to know when to start cooking my vegetables. Of if my mom tells me to call her back in about 15 minutes, I'll use the timer and set it for 20 minutes. lol

I don't use this type of timers and i heard about this type of timer from you.thanks for this information.I will really purchase it today or tommorrow.

We use a timer on out heater.

Hey chevee! No I have never used timers before. I do think
that they are a great idea for people that are as you say
not home until late. It gives people the idea that someone is
home and you don't have to come into a dark house. My girlfriend
has timers in her apartment so when she goes away people won't
know that there is no one home! My house in the front is always
dark whether I'm home or out! I work on the computer in the kitchen
or watch tv in the back in the bedroom without a light on!
