First dog Bo has his very own children’s toy, courtesy of Beanie Babies maker Ty.
The company has been selling a $4.99 “Beanie Bo” toy made in the Portuguese Water Dog’s likeness, complete with white front feet and a red, white, and blue ribbon around its neck.
The toy’s first run, which went on sale April 16, sold out in a few hours, though toys are still available on eBay for around $20.
Ty says it plans to sell more Beanie Bos, and will donate some of the proceeds to animal shelters.
The company took heat earlier this year when it sold two dolls named “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia.” The dolls were later renamed “Sweet Sydney” and “Marvelous Mariah,” though a company spokesman denied any wrongdoing. (“There’s nothing on the dolls that refers to the Obama girls,” spokesperson Tania Lundeen said at the time.)
“Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia” dolls are also for sale on eBay, for the recession-busting price of $1,800 for the pair.
I like the fact that some of the earnings will go to animal shelters.
That's great.
I could not buy one, if I could I would tho.
I love Bo.
And it is cute in beanie baby form.
So, what do you think about it?
Beanie baby Bo is a good idea to raise money for animal shelters?
Or beanie babies went to far?

Shakes Head, sigh.. What next is Bo going to become the spokes dog for the Aspca. People and new and companies are making this dog a bigger deal than he is. Shakes head again, and they are making profit from it. How much do you want to bet that more people who normally wouldn't have bough a portuguese water dog are now going to buy it because he is the "in dog". Then after the people buy it how long til a quarter of them can't pay for the upkeep and grooming and then those dogs suffer or go to a shelter. Is the media then going to pay or donate money to the shelters since they have made this more of a big thing than it is? I know Ty said they will donate some of the proceedes but exactly how much 10%, 5% , 1%? I think if they are going to hype this up they better be forking all profit except the cost to make the beanies to the shelter since they are going to be part of the whole media circus which is going to cause this breed to be more popular and in more of a demand and more likely now to end up in a shelter. It will just be like when the movie 10 dalmations came out and everyone went a got there kid a cute dalmation. Not realizing how energetic and highstrung they could be. sigh... need I say more.

I do not believe a bet on how many people will go and adopt a portuguese water dog is even necessary (and I love to bet)
I believe I have seen it happen with chihuahuas and the movie bervely hills chihuahua, when I adopted Marley, at least 4 chihuahuas were taken to the shelter.
Dalmatians need activity, and well they do shed a lot, I think that's why a lot of people return them, we are not active people, any dog needs at least to be walked once and also needs attention, especially if they are puppies like Marley.
I think the media owes the public a gentle reminder, that dogs have special needs and wants and what a portuguese water dog needs and requires.
I completely understand your opinion.

Hey Shelly! I think that Bo is an adorable doggie! I wouldn't
mind buying the beanie dog especially if the money is going
to animal shelters, and I do hope that it is! I don't see
anything wrong with Ty doing that! He happens to be just so
cute! I just hope that Ty is going to really hand over some
of the money to the shelters because they need the money
alot more than Ty does! I haven't seen the beenie dog yet,
but I will be looking for it now! I have been a beenie
collecter for years! I love to collect beenie animals!

I understand that the bo beanie baby is sold already.
I have read that beanie babies once sold they are retired but then it could change for this one or I could be wrong.
I believe it is an adorable idea too.
I have a few beanie babies myself, tho I am not a serious collector.
