scenerio one - a couple from canada are on vacation in florida and are struck by a drunk driver and sadly, the husband is killed. the killer is brought to justice and is given 45 years for vehicular manslaughter. scenerio two - this happened in canada - a girl and her male friend are coming home from drinking at a bar, both are drunk, the girl who was driving, crashes and kills her male friend. she is brought to justice and gets 30 months in jail how sad is that? all dui drivers get in canada is a slap on the wrist and dont have to pay for their crime! when will the canadian justice system wake up?

You can knock someone down and kill them in England and get a few months suspeneded and fine of fifty pounds, drunk or not.Should be a straight murder charge if you get in the car and kill someone then that is what it should be,accidents are different and should be treated as such.xx

sometimes the justice system here is also not so fair according to my opinion... some crimes which should be given a heavier punishment are not whereas some lighter crimes are given too much punishment... we live in a sinful world and the justice system is created by sinful humans... so we can't expect it to be perfect... and i have also learn that nothing is fair in this sinful world... i just have to live with it... take care and have a nice day...

My nephew was killed in the second scenario 5 years ago, the driver ( his close friend) got a few years. And while many feel it may not be enough, this young man has to live with the fact he killed his best friend. I think his life is really a living hell. His life has been in a downward spiral. But in the end My nephew did get in the car with him.

I think many times punishments are not equivelent to their crime. I just recently say on the news, in the US, a man killed a young girl when he was driving drunk, and only got 18 months in prison. It looks like punishments for crimes are so sporatic. It's sad, but that is the way the justice system works.
