What's your laptop of choice?

Hello myLotters,
In the next few months, I plan of getting a laptop through the business that I'm in. What brand or brands do you suggest? I've heard very good things about Toshiba and Acer. I'm using my friend's Gateway which has also been good. What is the best value out there?

personally i prefer ASUS or Toshiba lappies.. i'm quite drawn by their quality and durability. hardware specs doesn't really fall under my considerations since makers can make similar specs.. it all goes out to which satisfies my need for quality.

Durability is really what I'm after if the price is right. That is what I've heard about Toshiba. Thank you, repkoopz. I appreciate your thoughts.

I picked up an Acer 5515 for 380.00 TOTAL (including tax) at Wal-Mart. I think this was part of a promo but someone said that they were priced about $100.00 less than what they should have been. It has some nice specs - DVD writer, nice big screen, quiet keyboard, touch pad mouse, 2 USB ports, basic software package, speakers. There's no webcam but it has a built in modem and is prety much ready to go out fo the box. Acer might not be a popular brand in some areas but so far it has given me no problems and for the price I couldn't pass up getting it.

A couple of years ago I had a new nic card put into my computer and the tech was the one who mentioned Acer. He too said what you did about Acer not being the most popular but pretty reliable and affordable.

Toshiba used to be good, now I would go for HP/Compaq for reasons of reliability, build quality, etc.
