Vegetarians... What do you think of them? | | I am a vegetarian, have been one for over 2 years now. To be honest: I don't miss meat, I hate it. The idea that you're chewing on muscles.. Ew^^
Anyway; sometimes I get comments of people like "You stupid carrot-killer" or "Look at me! I'm enjoying this delicious piece of meat!!". It's not as if I care about those people saying that, but I don't like the fact the people can be so disrespectful. So I wondered: what do you think of vegetarians (Question for the meat-eaters)?

I basically try to be as good for everyone in this world as I can, and that includes the animals. It seems that the 'bad food' vegetarians eat is a huge threshold for people who want to become vegetarian. But to be honest: if you find the right vegetarian food, you can make much nicer things than with meat. And while eating, you don't have to feel guilty. That's a huge pro for me.

I haven't had meat for about bout five years, and while the wacky little jokes meat-eaters like to crack whenever I eat out with them ("Mmmm...yummy steak..") can get old really quick, I find vegetarians much more annoying. I eat what I eat. Other people eat what they eat. Its my decision, theirs are their decisions. End of story.
I started out of curiosity about the lifestyle and for health reasons, and over time it also became an ethical issue. But I have had zero desire to convert people. In fact, the only time I actively recommend a vegetarian diets is for people who want to eat healthier, and that doesn't even have anything to do with meat or no-meat--it just makes you more aware of what you're eating and my experience was that it made it easier to really make better decisions about what I was eating. I also recommend it if you want to quit smoking. I quit smoking the same day I quit meat, and I was so wrapped up in figuring out my diet that I didn't even think of smoking (which was a huge deal, as I was a pretty heavy smoker).
But, no. Many vegetarians feel the overwhelming need to make comments and guilt people over their steak. Would I like it if everyone stopped eating meat? Sure, I admit that I would. But I'm not about to force anyone.

secondly some vegetarians want to have special treatment for them as they are "VEGETARIANS" recently i attended an event where 20 persons (organisers of the event) were vegetarian and they made other 550 guest attending the event?? and there were alot of food wastages as not all of them love vegetarian food
thirdly .. as most restaurants are not fully vegetarian, this people go to the extend of forcing the chef to wash all the dishes before cooking for them .. during busy period ..
hope i dont offend you in anyways
i am vegetarian for the next whole month but i must make sure i dont offend anyone, when people ask me to buy them anything non vege, i will .. so what??

| IsThatLatin (15) | 5 months ago | Yeah...I only mention that I'm vegetarian if I have to, or if it's topical. Like now.=) Also, it can be very difficult to find something you can eat when eating out with friends. Hitting an Indian, Asian, or Ethiopian place helps (oh, and it's so yummy), but in your typical American restaurant, it's hard to even find a salad with no meat on it (seriously, it's really frustrating). But this is what one has to do when eating with their meat-eating friends. However, if it's just you and another Veg, there are sometimes some good Veg restaurants where you don't have to worry about what's touching what back in the kitchen.
People have to remember that no matter what they do and do not eat, if they are really expecting their plates to be completely uncontaminated by meat, they should probably just eat at home.
Admittedly, it is also frustrating when we are given a hard time about it, although folks with allergies are catered to (no argument there--they can't help it), or when people have diet restrictions because of religious reasons (sorry...that's a lifestyle choice, just like mine is, so I do expect the same consideration).

| | 4. oindy54 (367) | 5 months ago | Hi Tcboss, I have a lot of respect for vegetarians. It is purely a matter of choice whether you choose to have meat or not.I have tried a lot to give up meat but to be very honest,my family never allowed me to do so.As long as I do not get married,I cannot exercise my will because I am still a student and dependent on my parents. So I have to act according to their wishes. But I and my boyfriend have decided that once we get married,we will go the vegetarian way.I think non-vegetarian people also suffer from more illnesses than their counterparts.I hate the killing that takes place to satisfy people's greed.I am being very honest about this topic as it is always at the corner of my mind and at last I have found a place to express it.I have always felt that even if one or two people give up meat and can influence some of their friends to go about the same way,a change can very gradually be brought about.Just ignore those who tell you all this and be proud that you are a vegetarian!

| | 5. shikha_1851985 (695) | 4 months ago | i think it is very possible and a good decision as long as you do the research and know how to stay healthy. I have been a vegetarian for 10 years now, starting when I was 12, and I would never consider any other choice for myself. However, I did know other vegetarians in high school who just ate all junk food, and they obviously had some health issues. Best of luck!
