Nail Polish can be harmful! |
| |
| http://www.carefair.com/B... you can buy some brands of nail polish with out the harmful chemicals but most have them. here are three BAD ingredients in nail polish to look out for! Toluene Toluene is a human reproductive and developmental toxin. It may affect the nervous system with symptoms like tiredness, confusion, weakness, drunken-type actions, and memory loss. It is thought to cause liver damage and skin irritation. In high levels it may affect the kidneys. Toluene has been linked to birth defects in laboratory animals. Formaldehyde Formaldehyde is a carcinogen and a common indoor air pollutant because its resins are used in many construction materials. Formaldehyde has caused cancer in the nose and throats of lab animals. Inhaling the fumes can result in watery eyes, headache, burning in the throat, and labored breathing. Dibutyl Phthalate Phthalates are used to soften plastic, and are known to affect hormone function. Studies have linked phthalates to early puberty in girls and low sperm counts in men. Environmental groups claim phthalate exposure may contribute to the rising number of uterine problems in women and testicular cancer in men. It could also be one of the contributing factors to a rise in infertility in both sexes. Repeated and heavy exposure to dibutyl phthalate may cause nausea and/or vomiting, tearing of the eyes, dizziness, and headache. Long-term exposures may cause damage to kidneys and the liver. Pregnant women must consider that dibutyl phthalate may harm the developing fetus and the male testes. do you buy nail polish that is safe? i didnt even know that any was bad for you till i watched the doctors and heard horror stories!! | | | | | |

| | Well, I can honestly say that I never thought the ingredients in nail polish were something we should be inhaling but I didn't think they were THAT harmful! I used to polish my nails all the time, when I was working in an office. I was always proud of my nails because I took good care of them. After I began working from home, then later stopped working altogether, I rarely use nail polish. I've developed brittle nails somewhere along the way, probably as a side-effect of one of my various medical issues or even from one of my medications. It could be hereditary, too, because my mother also developed brittle nails later in life. So, I don't use nail polish at all unless some of my nails have split below where they grow away from the skin and cause pain. Then, I'll coat them with polish, usually a clear polish, until the cracks have grown out and no longer hurt. However, on the rare occasions I do use nail polish, I do so in a well-ventilated area because nail polish stinks! At least, in my opinion it does. When my dogs smell something and run, I know it CAN'T be good! LOL Thanks for the info, moon. I hope it can help even one person reconsider using it, especially if they are pregnant or wish to become pregnant! | | | | | | |

| | i wish they had done more studies on if it sinks into your system via nail bed because i know the doctors show said they didnt know how much or if it went through your nails into your system which could cause neurological problems etc.. | | | |

| | Well, that would be a hoot if I found our my current neurological problems are all caused by nail polish! If it causes enough of them, I'm sure there will be some class-action lawsuits against the manufacturers of nail polish! | | | |

| | I was always told that nail polish is harmful for us and was never encouraged to use nailpolish from childhood. That may be the reason I am not too fond of it and use it very very occasionally. May be while going out for a party or wedding. | | | | | | |
