This may sound kinda silly to some, but I truly believe that most gang members join so that they will feel like a part of something. It becomes like their family and many of them have been rejected or neglected by their families. They join a gang because it gives them a sense of belonging!

Actually, you're right. That really IS one of the reasons at least many people join gangs. I was a criminal justice major in college and did several papers on gangs and prison gangs and I remember reading that several times.

Yeah, it kinda makes sense in a weird sort of way.But actually, we all join our "gangs" we just call them clubs, or church! They are just a place we feel comfortable and accepted and most of them are less violent and anti-societal!

I think there are gangs because there are people who feel lost but do not have the strength to be more than what they are. I mean, lazy ones who make excuses. They group together, influence one another and come up with bad ideas that rub off on each other. And even if some of them know deep in their hearts that what they are doing is wrong, they are just too lazy and too much of a coward to get out.

I am not sure either, I think that gangs are so unecessary. I myself dont understand it but I have heard that people get into gangs when they dont have a family to come home to or they feel insecure. That when they join that gang that will take the place of the family that they are missing.

As I said to the person before me, she's right. A sense of belonging/family/whatever you want to call it is part of the reasons that people join gangs. Others do so out of wanting protection they feel that they can receive from being a member of a gang. of course there are the people who join mainly because of the power and/or money they believe they will get out of it.
