How to tell your partner that he/she snores? |
|
Hi mylotters,
I personally know that loud snoring can effect other people's sleep. Does your partner snores while sleeping? If yes, did you tell he/she directly about the snoring? How did they react? Do they believe you? At first my partner didn't believe and he said that I was the one who snores. Yeah, typical male response:-)..But later, he began to accepted this and gladly took some medication to help with the snoring. Nevertheless, the medicine didn't work out as I thought and he is still snoring:-) But now, I've grown accustomed to hear his snores, and I manage to get a good night sleep..:-)...What about your experience?

1. med889 (2823) | 7 months ago | My partner snores while he sleeps and I told him several times, I even posted a question for a solution on yahoo answers because I love him but I also want him to let me sleep in peace because I love my dreams too. So I told him, he didn't believe at the beginning and one day I recorded his voice while he was sleeping and the next day I told him to listnen to himself, he was laughing and me too and now he makes it less and there are still times when he snores very loud that I needto wake him up;-)

But do you think he could make it less after he knew he snored when he was sleeping? I think we can't control it, as the noise was making unconsciously.^.^

med889 (2823) | 7 months ago | Yes you are right and I have to wake me up everytime I can hear the snoring too loud, and sometimes he behaves as if h really does not know anything about, which makes me tell me that I will again record his snoring at night;-)

2. mylesnarvaez (1620) | 7 months ago | i had a boyfriend before who starts snoring the moment he falls asleep. it used to be so loud i couldn't sleep. he knew about that and he was very apologetic. so i made a little research and applied it on him.
in his case, the air vessels had to be clear so i encouraged him to sleep on his side often. if i sleep facing him or if his back is facing me... and he starts snoring, my hand will automatically reach out for his neck and do a little bit of massage at the back of his neck. this is to clear the air passage. i do it about 3 times whenever he starts snoring until it was reduced to barely audible.
there are many reasons why people snore, good thing he's one of the people whom the little massage thing can work.:)

| 5. frtwome (91) | 7 months ago | I've been married for more than 30 years to my husband, and he has snored every single night of all those years, and to this day, he will still deny that he is a snorer. We just recently had a friend from out of state, come to visit us, and spent the night at our home. The next morning when I was fixing breakfast for us all, I her telling teasing my husband about how she heard him snoring all night. And he says NO it wasn't me snoring, I don't snore, you must have been hearing things, and then he was blaming it on my poor little cats. He told our friend that our cats were doing all the loud snoring. I don't know that I have ever really gotten use to his snoring, it's just something that I have to live with. Whenever it reallys gets to me, I just get up and sleep on the couch.

| 6. yetigirl (45) | 7 months ago | Well, snoring is more usual than people think. I can tell because my husband snored. I mean, he still snores, but much less. Talking about this matter is not that difficult if we make some previous research to find the reason of snoring. If he smokes, has allergies that affect his normal breathing, high blood pressure, he's a little overwheighted or even tends to sleep upsided instead of sided, these are the common factors that originates snoring. Instead of telling him that he snores, make him questions like "have you slept well?", "feel your throat soared or your mouth dry when you wake up?", the good way is to make him realize he snores but not telling him straight. Oh, noone grows accustomed to hear snores, it's like smoking, sure the night he doesn't snore you sleep even better;) My husband, as I said, snores, but he smoked. Before quitting it, he made walls tremble, I had to move him to sleep sided because it reduced somehow his snoring. I grew accustomed to his snoring, but realized that the nights he didn't snore we both slept much better. I told him kindly, telling him that when I was about to have a cold or the flu, or at least having some temperature or migraine, I snored, and he probably snored a bit (lied but he got it, that I have spent some nights sleepless not because I couldn't sleep but because his snoring). He quitted smoking, and now his snoring frequency has reduced to be occasional, because of very stressing days.
Hope this helps you a bit. Work together and you two will get through snoring better:)

I went camping with my hubby before we got married. I heard he snored when he was sleeping, and I told him the following day. Why don't tell him? I just told him a truth. And he said he knew it~ It is not difficult to tell your partner that he/she snores, but I think we should tell him/her this very early.

8. Trensue (1104) | 7 months ago | Like they can do anything about it anyway? Most medication is a rip off. I say everyone put in some earplugs and get a good nights rest. Maybe I am too simple minded again. Better take a my lot break!

9. robert67 (1344) | 7 months ago | me ex used to snore very loudly, i suspect she still does:)
i told her after our first night in bed together. she was alright about me telling her and she was apologetic. it did stop me from sleeping but eventually i bought some earplugs and that helped me to sleep.
i think people should be told if they snore, they are wide awake next day but assume you are in a bad mood because you're quiet due to lack of sleep, just point out that his isn't the case, their snoring kept you awake and you need to sleep.

10. berrys (606) | 7 months ago | ha ha my partner snores too! i think its a guy thing. most guys do snore and it usually comes from lack of sleep, blockage of the airway, sleeping in the wrong position or just because he snores. every time my partner snores i move his head or his body to a different position and he stops but if he starts again in a bit i just whack him sometimes it does the trick. ha ha he knows he snores and he says when i really can't stand it to tell him and he will go do something about it. so far i do not want him to do anything yet cause i think i can handle it but if it gets too far i will ask him too. good luck on a full night's sleep. bye.
