Is dead sea really dead?  

well dead sea is not really dead. What makes it look dead is the salt content of the water. The unusual buoyancy is caused by high salinity and I believe that no living things live underneath it.

I get the information about dead sea from book. It is said that due to the high concentration of Dead Sea salt,so water is virtually non-existent in any life!So why the reason that it called the Dead Sea!It is said people can float on the surface .This sounds like a very wonderful thing!If there is a chance ,I would go here!

Of course, we can float in the surface of the dead sea, because the percentage of salinity is very high. There is only germs and green algae alive not other plant like flower and grass. So it's called Dead sea.

Maybe they called it the dead sea since so many people lost their lives on it so long ago and so they call it the dead sea. Or it could be that they considered it a dead sea cause if you went in you could get killed if you were attacked by something in the sea.

I went to float in the Dead Sea when I was traveling in Israel. It is so incredibly salty that it is unique. Swimming is impossible there. The salt would sting any tender area like legs that have just shaved for example. It would be agony to get some water in the eyes. There are no fish there and so that is perhaps why it is called the Dead Sea. Sinking would be impossible and a non swimmer would just float like everyone else. Further down there is the Red Sea around the beach resort of Eilat. I wonder why that is called the Red Sea.

I rememeber talking about this in a geography lesson. I think it has something to do with the amount of salt in the water which is so much it makes you float on the water so you can't actually sink in it.

Dead sea is called like that because it has high salt inside the sea.It also called like that because it get the name from the history about pharoah and prophet Mose and his people run to dead sea because they want avoid from pharoah torturing them.When Mose reached at the dead sea,God ask Mose phrophet to touch his magic stick at the dead sea and then, the dead sea was divided by two.Mose and his man run across the dead sea and save.But when pharoah Egypt that time want to across it too by his man,Mose touch his stick again at the dead sea untill it become normal back.So,that's way also dead sea got it name.I have read about this in Egypt history.This story is true and have been told in Quran and Bible too.Thank you.
