Did you use a play pen for you child(ren)?  |

|  When my oldest was a baby I had one but never used it. When my youngest was a baby I never had one so I never used one. Now, I am pregnant with my 3rd daughter and I have 2 play pens. I plan on using one for outside and one for indoors. I think I am actually going to use one this time around because where I live there are so many other children and with my daughter going to be just a baby this summer it will be easier to keep an eye on her.
What did you do when your child(ren) were babies? Did you like using them?

| |  I am not a huge fan of playpens. They are good for somethings. But I think it is also important to teach your child to listen. At home, there shouldnt be things they arent allowed to have where they can get to them. So there is no need to keep the child confined in a playpen!
They are really nice when you are going somewhere else. The mobile ones they make now are great for a place for you baby to nap at a relative's or friend's house. It is also nice if there are pets or many things the children are supposed to play with there.
I am sure that I will have one when I have kids. I dont plan on using it at home though.

| | I agree with you. That's why I never liked them or used them. I have always had someone to help me watch my child when I needed to get things done. This time around I figure it will be good expessially with 3 other children at home under the age of 6 and my husband works so the baby wont get into the smaller toys that her older siblings will be playing with. This way I can get the dishes done real quick or something else around the house. I do believe that people shouldnt rely on play pens to "babysit" your child. | | | |

| |  I used a play pen with my children 20 some odd years ago. The best use I found for it was putting the christmas tree in it (that was the large type of playpen). With my grandson I used the playpen when I was helping care for him to keep up with him. As I have arthritis in my spine and was not able to move much at the time and this was very nice for me and made it easy to keep up with him until we could get gates and safety locks in. Now I believe in having my main living area kid friendly, but will use a play pen for all of my grandchildren. I believe that it is a safe place for them to play, but they should be allowed to be on the floor too.
