Exploit The Earth Or Die

This is not a threat or an ultimatum but a reality. With all the talk from government of high environmental standards for everything from the electricity that your house uses to the car you drive we need a reality check. Either man takes from the Earth such as trees, petroleum, aluminum, and transforms them into the requirements of his life, or he dies. To live, man must produce the goods on which his life depends he must produce homes, automobiles, computers, electricity, etc, he must seize nature and use it to his advantage. There is no escaping this fact. Even the allegedly “noble” savage must pick or perish. Indeed, even if a person produces nothing, insofar as he remains alive he indirectly exploits the Earth by parasitically surviving off the exploitative efforts of others. Conservation does not create it just stretches existing amount of resources. At some point conservation ceases to be a valid solution. Let say you need two hundred dollars tomorrow yet you only have one hundred dollar. You can conserve all day but that will not create another hundred dollars.

What we can do is using creation wise. For me it was a big step ahead, when photovoltaic technology allowed me to produce my own household electricity. This has started less than 10 years ago. My next jump could be a car running purely on electricity. I am so happy that China is jumping into this electric car technology and in a way GM and Chrysler (but also BMW and Mercedes) deserve their trouble for being short sighted with this respect.

When things are naturally produced, yes, conservation can go a long way. Giving sufficient resources, while allowing new sources to flourish. Obviously humans must use resources from the environment; however, we do not need to destroy our environment. Exploiting, depending on what way you are using the term, is much different than coexisting. But I do agree, conserving does not make more. Planting trees or preserving nature, thats also important.

You can exploit nature for as long as "nature" exists.

A rationalist, liberal-individualist form of thought. We are connected to nature...so destroying nature only seems contradictory to the original goal.
