I went through the guidelines of myLot but did not find any mention about the positive and negative ratings. Do you think we get paid only when someone ( mostly the one who has started the discussion and you are commenting on it) will rate your comment as positive ? Or will mark your response as the best one ? If this is not what psys us then what are those ratings used for ?

You don't need a postive rating to earn. You just need to post alot and do more than just a sentence or two in a response. Rating a discussion helps I believe to form your reputation rating (ie the Star) by your handle. I've noticed also if you get alot of responses to a discussion you have started you are also paid a bit better for that day as well. Don't get discouraged, I was too at first and then once I really sunk my teeth into it I really like it. But don't expect to be making dollars everday usually it's change.... though every lil bit helps.
Happy MyLotting :)

Oh now I got it. The stars you have got shows the number of time you have received positive rates for your comments ?
I wont be discouraged so soon. I will try my level best to discuss on good topic and give a good lengthy response to all discussions. Will responding to around ten discussions help me earn 20 cents ? I really want to know the approximate number of discussions I should respond to in order to earn maximum.

No-one can tell you how much you will earn if you respond to 20 discussions. It depends on the quality of what you write.
Try it out for a few days and see how it goes. Remember that earnings are updated once every 24 hours so it will be a nice surprise if you have written interesting quality responses.
Welcome to mylot and good luck!

That's correct. Even I experienced this. Cheerio pal! Have a happy mylotting and do check the faq before doing anything. There are some vital info you need to know regarding how the discussions are accepted.

The positive ratings are used only for calculating the reputation. If you want to know what reputation is, it is the star next to the username. People who provide correct response to the discussions are rated positive. People who poke fun or make a laugh or place irrelevant things are rated negative.
To earn from comments, you have to write quality content. There are some rules too:
- you shouldn't use the word 'thank you'
-you should write 4-5 at least.
-the comment should stick to the topic and should not be an attempt to deviate from the discussion

Happy mylotting!
