I've been looking for a good job here in Honolulu and i can't find one that i really like. The economic collapse has created a very competitive job market and with my work history being from another country, i don't think any employer in their right mind would go out their way to waste their time and money calling out of country for my job references. Why would they call out of country when there are hundreds of unemployed people with their work reference right here in honolulu available for the job at hand.
It is very tough. Hopefully it will get better though. If anyone can see what sort of messed up situation i'm in and would like to give me a tip or two about getting a job, i would greatly appreciated.

Hawaii. That can be tough!
A friend of mine moved to Hawaii a couple of years ago. No one would hire you unless you had lived there for 6 months! There are so many people who move there thinking it would be wonderful. Within 6 months, they move back to the continental US because they realize that vacationing in Hawaii and living there are not the same!
So if you have been there for a while, make sure you make that clear on your applications. They are much more likely to look at you if they know you will be staying.
Good luck!
