To answer your question: yes I do, an autoresponder is being used mostly by sites where you're ought to sign up ( also used by internet marketeers to be able to verify email address or to be able to give the url of a report/ebook without letting people wait and without having to do it manually) or by people who are on holiday. On sign up sites they also use it to verify email addresses and for people who go on holiday it's to let the senders know that they are on vacation and thus mustn't expect a reply soon.
