For or against the death penalty? |
|
I just wondered how many of you are for or against the death penalty and what are your reasons for your choice?
I am personally against it, no-one is better for taking someone else's life whether they are guilty or not. These people who commit such crimes should be made to suffer for the rest of their life in prison so they have to wake up every morning knowing why they are in the horrible place!

Obviously any murder is horrid and heinous but I think those like that Timothy guy who blew up the federal building in Oklahoma or Osama Binladin would be just in getting the death penalty. I’d like to say everyone sentenced to life in prison with no option of parole should just get death because why should our tax money pay for these scum to live but there’s just too many people falsely being convicted.

You say no one can claim anyone else's life but death sentence is given only when that person has committed such a crime. Sometimes people are afraid of only death. Life imprisonment means they get free food for life, high security, gym facility and all... You don't facilitate a person for the crimes that he has committed. Look at Ajmal Kasab (terrorist at the Taj Mahal Hotel). I still don't understand why India ain't giving him a death sentence?

It is a logical action in my opinion; you say the reason you don't like the death penalty (pardon my paraphrasing) is because we don't have the right to take their life and they should suffer for the rest of their lives. The problem there is; how can we be sure they are suffering? We can't. And as far as no one having the right to take another's life that point is moot. right or not people murder, and when someone does they forefit their rights in total. Obviously their need to kill that person was more important that being a part of society.
I say give them a year, maybe two at most to make restitution, seek their forgiveness if they chose to, say their goodbyes, and get their affairs in order.
Why should a murderer get to spend the rest of their life fed, clothed, sheltered, educated, given dental care, medical care, and recreation, all without them having to WORK FOR IT while the rest of us non criminals do? There are elderly peole who are 70 and still trying to hold down a job after 50+ years of working because their retirement is no longer enough. If anyone has earned a free ride it's them. There are MANY working, contributing, tax-paying, non murderous Americans that don't have it as easy as these "for lifers". And yet we are the ones paying for them to spend the rest of their lives lamenting their crime in fed stability.
It's not fair, it's not logical, and it's not just.

| 5. JennieRaw (4) | 7 months ago | I'm for the death penalty. I think we pay enough taxes as it is and paying for the psycos to live in a prison with food and a toilet is just wrong. If they are willing to do the crime than they should know the outcome is death. It would save a lot of taxes and it would make some people think before they act. Instead of getting a room and board for killing someone they should be hung like in the older days...

6. bird123 (1154) | 7 months ago | I'm against the death penalty for two reasons. 1. Instead of destroying the problem, man should learn how to fix these people. Aren't they all just mentally ill so to speak?? 2. How many innocent people got the death penalty??? Isn't 1 too many? What if you were the one on death row and innocent??? Is it fair to let even one innocent person die to punish the guilty???

But if he his a rapist or a murderer than the law has every right to give him death penalty because such people pollutes the society. Even if he is given life imprisonment he will do bads things inside the prison. A bad person remains a bad person for life. It is hard to change a bad person.

8. nashlix (167) | 7 months ago | i am for the death penalty although i think it is a very sad thing when a person's live is ended by another. however, i am against mandatory death sentence for drug trafficking in my country. in singapore, drugs trafficking is punishable by death if you are found with more than 15g of heroin, 30g of cocaine, 500g of cannabis or 250g of methamphetamines. some, not all, of these traffickers are forced into this trade by life circumstances and should therefore, be spared from the gallows o the basis of mandatory death penalty. they should at least be heard and tried and given a chance. for a person who murders another, i believe that he or she should be hanged if it can be proved that he or she had the intention to kill and did commit the crime. so i am for and against the death sentence, only depending on how is it administered.

| 9. vingoze (34) | 7 months ago | I am totally in support of the death penalty, why because it is only death that people fear......I guess I can say this because I am a black man from Nigeria, and I have hardly heard of anyone here committing suicide, so you see that life is what we cherish most, so then death penalty should be enforced because it will deter people from doing all sorts of evil that they do, imagine a suicide bomber killing thousands of people, imagine people who engage in all kinds of fake production of real products. To me anyone who does anything that harms any other human should be made to pay dearly for it especially when it involves the death of someone.

| 10. honeyballuu (16) | 7 months ago | On the one hand I'm against the death penalty... What if that person turns out to be innocent after he/she is guilty? Also the idea of "a life for a life" is very primitive- taking the life of someone who took a life is being as bad as that person. On the other hand I think that certain people do deserve death, such as the ones caught in action. Another question that could be put forward is, who wants their taxes to go to keeping alive someone who has been so heinous? I have to conclude however that death is an easy option out of suffering in prison for the rest of their life. Restriction of liberty is the worst thing a human being can suffer and someone who has made the lives of so many miserable, deserves to be miserable.
