ethnic music? are you interested to learn them

Do you think it will be interesting to buy some local instrument and be among the few who will learn it and will be good at it. i am actually listening and watching to a person playing an ethnic instrument. it looks like a guitar but it looks totally different like a guitar from some traditional culture in the past. and the guy is asian too. but it is amazing that he is able to produce a classical music out of this guitar looking instrument though the instrument sounds weird but the way he played it he is able to produce a beautiful music. i wonder why he got interested to it and not the usual instruments we get used to see and hear. but in a way it does look cool now to see and be someone who can play some unique instruments. you would surely stand out among the rest.
