I was packing my bags to go on a trip to NYC when they announced on the news that they closed down the school there because of the outbreak. Did I still go? Of course. I only saw 4 people in the city with masks on. I don't think the people of NYC were too worried about it? Everything went on as normal. I think the media made more of a big deal than need to be. Here I am a few weeks later and I'm feeling just fine.

You did the right thing. Sometimes, the media can magnify a situation a hundred times over. If we let our fear run over our desire to travel, we might end up frustrated and sulking in our own little corner.

Luckily I have already had my trip in January and that was to South Africa. I know that I did see a poster there warning about the possibility of catching TB. In the past I have been to Kenya and there they have a risk of catching malaria from mosquitoes that are affected. I think if I had another trip planned I would look at the Internet to research the possibility of catching swine flu. I think that I would still go on my trip unless catching would be almost a certainty. However in that case airlines probably would have their flights canceled to such destinations.

You are right! if the place I am going to is a real risk , airlines would probably cancer flights. Or my country might also cancer travel warnings. I will be going to Europe and Canada. Hopefully these places will not have so much incidents of Swine flu. I still pray that the swine flu problem will be controlled soon as this has already affected a lot of business and the world economy as a whole.

My bf didn't cancel his trip. Its the outbreak of swine flu in Hong Kong lately when my bf took a connecting flight from Hong Kong going here to the Philippines. After 2 days of his arrival, he has a high fever. I gave him some medicines that I have in my bag and put a wet towel on his head since we don't have an Ice Holder in the hotel. His fever subsided after a few hours... he was back to normal, I was afraid that time that it might be swine flu but I am happy that it was not.

Oh! you must be pretty scared. Sometimes long distance traveling can really stress out a person and can sometimes bring minor illnesses like colds and flu. I'm glad he is ok.

I wouldn't travel to Mexico at the moment. Most of the deaths have been recorded there, and the airline would charge me for excess baggage if I took my own coffin with me! Seriously, if I was travelling anywhere else, I wouldn't change my plans. After all, every country has got something that travellers want to avoid, but the truth is that only a tiny minority will be affected, and the risk is worth taking. Going to Mexico at the moment isn't. Good topic.

I wouldn't travel to Mexico too. I am planning to visit Europe and Canada. Exactly, it is not really advisable to travel to Mexico at the height of this problem. But for the countries, there is always a little risk involve in travelling. Appreciate your reply.

No, I will carry on with my travel date, but I will bring extra medicines and vitamins to keep me fit during the trip.

Good point and good suggestion too. I will bring extra medicines for colds etc. and vitamins since it might be too expensive to buy medicine on my travels. That is what I was thinking also, why move my trip. I think life goes on.If we will be too affected with these diseases , we might just end up staying in our homes for fear of it.
