My daughter's assembly

My daughter had an assembly today at school and when it was over, It make me open my eyes to a lot of things. The assembly was called "Rachel's Challenge". See, her school was visited by a boy who was a student at Columbine High school back in 1999 and he witnessed the murders of a few of his friends, and also his 16 year old sister, Rachel. He explained in detail the events that happend that day when 2 students opened fire and killed 13 people. Here is the interesting part. Rachel kept a journal her whole life, and the journal repeatedly stated that she was going to die at an early age, and that it would open the eyes of a lot of people. She seriously predicted her own death. The part that touched me was that Rachel was the type who was nice to everyone. If she saw someone getting picked on, she would be their friend. Once there was a boy there who had some mental disabilities and some kids in the hall were throwing his books on the floor and giving him a hard time. Rachel stook up for him and became his friend. After Rachel's death, the boy paid a visit to her parents and admitted that if it werent for her being so kind, he would have killed himself because he was thinking about it the day she approached him. The moral to all of this is that we as people need to watch how we treat others. How many times do we say something mean to someone and by the end of the day we forget all about it? Now...how many times has someone said something mean to you that hurt you for the rest of the day? We never know what is on someone's mind. We don't know what others are capable of. The way you treat people can make or break them. One mean comment could be the straw that breaks the camel's back and causes someone to shoot up a school or kill themselves. Everyone needs to feel loved and cared for, so we need to treat others well. Who knows, if someone would have been nice to those 2 boys that day, then it may have kept them from shooting all of those people. So treat others well, and you just might save a life.

Hi there Queen Love! Thank you for sharing that. It is both sad and inspiring at the same time. You are right. We may not know it but simple, kind words can greatly affect the recipient's life and if everyone will be full of kind words, the world will be a much better place for everyone.
