If You Smoke, Have You Ever Been Desperate Enough to Do This? email this discussion to a friend?

I'm wondering how many hard core smokers we have here.

Have you ever run out of cigarettes and couldn't buy any
so you rolled up your butts to keep smoking?

Have you ever run completely out of papers and everything
and just been stuck with having to do without?

I'm in that position right now and I'm trying to decide
whether or not to just quit and be done with it.

It's such a stupid habit and costs so much money and
I'm getting tired of running and feeling like I'm going
to pull my hair out wanting a cigarette so bad.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I smoke very heavily and yes i have used all the butts in the ashtray just to get to pay day.I also tried to give up,like you say it costs a lot to smoke, but i could not be without a smoke.I once tried rolling up tea leaves with a friend when we were a lot younger as we had both ran out of cigs, that was yuk.lol.Good luck if you do try to give up.

I'm an adult an yes, I smoke. Yes I have done recently all the things you have done. It is cheaper to buy "roll your own" tobacco than regular smokes..so that is what my husband and I do. One way to cut down on smoking is to either ban smoking in your home so you have to outside, or reserve one room that isolates the smoke some. My husband and I usually only smoke in our office or outside. Our kids see us outside, but they did before too. Yes, its expensive but the government is not going to be the one to make me stop....we get by..I don't drink anymore so its my one vice and frankly I am a healthy person that can gets a lot of exercise. I don't think smoking is as bad for you as everyone wants us to believe because if it was factually put out there..more people get lung cancer and die from other things than die from lung cancer caused by smoking. Yes there are issues with health..but you know what? It's my health. When they take all the vending machines out of schools, when the huge fat kids that wander our town asking adults for cigarettes go on a diet and when all the video-game addicted idiots go outside and play I will quit. I'm just ticked that the healthcare this new tax is going to fund is not even to help my son who is diabetic (type I not II) and the fat kids get a free ride.

My mother is a hardcore smoker. She's taking medication right now that is supposed to help her stop smoking but it's been a long road that seems to have no end in sight. I have seen her, on several occasions when she didn't have money for smokes or couldn't go get any, she would actually light the butts and smoke those. She has a habit of not smoking the entire thing anyway, so she just ends up smoking the rest of it. I think if you're that desparate then it's probably time to evaluate yourself and your life and you probably should quit. That's definitely an addiction.
