There are no broken bones!

Yesterday when I came home from work, our dog - Sable - was not using her front paw. It's not like she was just limping on it, but she was not even using it! At first I figured she hurt it a little and she'd be ok. This morning though, I noticed that it was swollen pretty bad and she was still not using it. She was actually crying about coming down the stairs to go outside. So we got her to the vet tonight. Well, it's lime disease. Which is apparently better than a broken bone. She'll be on medication for at least a month, and she should be walking fine in a couple days. She has actually walked around a little bit tonight - but not much. I'm not sure if she'll come upstairs when I go to bed, she might just stay down here for the night. I've never had to deal with lime disease, but I figure she'll be ok...

aawww poor baby. I've never had to deal with limes either. Don't they get it through a tick bite or something of this nature. I'm glad that she will be okay soon.

Yeah, they get them from deer ticks, which are apparently itty bitty ticks. We think my husband brought them home with him last weekend while he was hunting - he did have a few on him. Sable should be feeling better by tomorrow, she's still kinda lethargic.

She got it from a tick bite. It affects the joints so she was having a hard time walking. She is doing much better now although she's got a few weeks left to take the medicine.

It sounds like you did a really good thing taking your dog to the vet when you did and got her on medication. Be sure to check her real often for ticks and also make sure you don't get them either. Do research on Lyme Disease to find out more about what is ahead of you with Sable. Hopefully she won't have further problems. Feel better really soon Sable.

They're running tests for kidney problems, they said that's a rare but valid problem. I musta asked the vet 10,000 questions last night. For the next month, we're looking at trying to get the meds in her 2 times a day - she hates taking pills... She's also got some ear infection going on, so we've got to clean her ears out 2 times a day too - that's way too much fun! Dogs, gotta love 'em!

Wow! I never would have associated a swollen, sore foot with Lyme disease! That's something I worry about all the time, especially since there seems to be a huge increase in the tick population this year. Plus, we live in the mountains which are full of deer. I've taken more than one deer tick off me... luckily, only one was attached and my doctor put me on antibiotics as a precautionary measure. I hope Sable gets all better really soon! I feel so bad for our four-legged family members when they're hurt or sick. They don't understand what's going on. I try to make sure we don't have any tall weeds or grass and always put Frontline Plus on our dogs and cats. Still, occasionally, a tick will hitch a ride on their fur and find their way to me. I'm always on "tick alert", checking myself carefully and thoroughly, especially if I've spent time outside. I'm also always checking my dogs just to make sure there aren't any hitchhikers. Ticks are such creepy bugs!

I had no idea what the symptoms were either. But apparently sore and swollen joints along with a fever - she had that too - are the signs. I think I've only ever seen 2 ticks on her in all her 10 years and she rarely gets fleas. We don't normally put flea stuff on her because it burns her skin, so she's usually pretty lucky. We think my husband brought them home with him last weekend because he was hunting and had a few on him. And of course last night my knee started giving me a fit, it's all sore and swollen for no reason (other than I'm fat).
