I don't understand why people think it is illegal and they will get jailed just by chewing gum in Singapore.
It is only illegal to import or sell gum.
Here am I answering questions on Pickjack and more than one question states that it is illegal to chew gum in Singapore.
Is there a reason why people have this misconception that it's illegal to chew gum in Singapore?

That is what our "wonderful" media told us! I remember seeing the actual report when they did say that it is illegal to chew gum in Singapore. It is good to know the truth. I have to ask though, if it is illegal to sell gum or to import it, where do you get it? Can you obtain it only from traveling outside the country?

i agree with you about your "wonderful" media. They are feeding trash to our young people these days too.
Anyway to answer your question, Yes. You can bring in gum for personal consumption. Which is really perhaps a small pack. I believe they will close their eyes on that one. As long as it's not large enough (in quantities) to be sold.
And when you're chewing gum, just be considerate and dispose of it in the bin and not spit it anywhere. That was the main reason why the government banned it. It was hard to maintain the public area with all these unsightly, and not to mention hard to remove gum.
(PS: When i said you, i meant it generically. Not really meaning you mac. =)

So is gum still banned in Singapore? I don't guess we understand the difference between "banned" and "illegal".... what would be the difference to you?
