My hair is naturally straight. But I like to use straigtening irons to get a nice shine to my hair. To protect my hair I use a protection spray before I let the irons touch my hair. I also try not to use them at the top heat setting and keep them in my hair for the shortest time possible. There are lots of hair protection sprays. My favourite is by Umberto Gianni, as it gives me a nice shine and softness.

I use a heat protection product. Currently I'm using the Dove one. It keeps my hair soft while I'm flat ironing it & I also try to blow it out first and then flat iron it, cause it's healthier that way =)
