hello everyone. i came to know from a hindu friend about menstruation of the earth whom they consider a mother and a goddess. she has her period ones a year as per their hindu calendar based on the moon. this falls on june 15 of each year and it is called "Raja-sankranti.
so the Hindu's, more so, the farmers will not do anything for three days anything that will cause pain to mother earth like they wont do plowing, digging, nor eat non vegetables.
after three days, they can go back to their usual routine. and unmarried gals usually love swing on trees in the village compound after each festival. that i wonder why.
i am thrilled to learn this.
do you know of any similar festival in your place? please share.
thanks in advance,
ann

Dear Anny
Yes you have heard it right, since earth is considered as mother, a woman, she menstruates, but once in a year. This is observed as a festival.
Best of luck.

Hello Ann you have heard it right, we hindus consider earth as our mother, so as a woman she has this period too, it is for three days in a year only..... the unmarried girls enjoy the swings that we call 'raja-doli'

Hi tigeraunt,
This is very similar to our Pagan festival which is held in May and we call it Baltaine which celebrate growth of the earth and fertilty rights which we have maypole where the unmarried girls will pull the ribbons from the maypole and dance around, I think its the same but your country hole it in June.
