Is someone following you just becuse you share the same name?

My 17 year old son joined Twitter about a month ago and someone who has the same first name and surname as him has started following him.
He does not know this person and has never seen him before in his life.
He finds it a bit weird as the only thing they do have in common is their name.
My son is the sort that will only add family or friends that he knows personally.
Has this happened to you?
Has someone added you on a social network site just because they share the same name?
Would you add someone who has the same name as you even if you don't know them?

happy It never happened to me that someone who had same name with me followed me. I think i have no same name and lastname its only one either name or last name.
If that happens to me that i do not know him/her but wanted me as friend i will add the person nothing wrong with adding. Its my own views, and your son had his own too.
I never added someone who has the same name with mine even i saw them.

I can understand what you mean as you could make a new friend but my son was painfully shy as a child and only just now is coming out of himself, so don't think he is quite ready to talk to strangers yet.
