parents' duties

No, I disagree! Let the children pursue want they want. To become what they in their near future. Parents should act as mediator,adviser and supporter to their children.

I simply won't let my parents control of way of life. I just couldn't let anyone run my life except myself. I need to be happy, and my parents should know about it. I just have to be the person I wanted to be. I am grown up now, and I can do the things that I think that is right for me. Not for anybody else.

There are 2 differant things, one is making them do things that they don't want to do like family functions (wedding, funeral grandma's birthday), the other is extra cericular activities (piano, swimming, football). Family functions and such are up to your own personal belief and how much of a distraction you can put up with your children making. When it come to extra activities, I believe those are there for the children to grow and discover who they are and what they like to do, to become their own person. Forcing them to do take part in something they don't want to do is only going to hold them back. Parents need to be supportive in their childrens interests. If a parent is supportive, and shows interest in what their children are doing, they can keep communication going. I believe that the parents that do that, know more about what there kids are into instead of wondering if thy are on drugs or sleeping around or what not.

hey hey hey i say no, parents should never try to oppose children moreover they should be supportive encouraging loving and careing. first make child realise what he or she is asking they if they have to be granted then give permission otherwise just take then into your lap and talk to then lovingly about why they arent granted to them. i say when you are dealing with children then act like a child and think like a child

That is the worst. NEVER EVER LET A PARENT DO THAT. Must have delayed me 5 years or so.

parents always wanted the best for their children. as such, i'd like to think that what they are trying to make their children do will be for their own good. parents do not intentionally oppose their children for the sake of opposing, there must be a reason why they are not into what their children want. i think there should be an open communication between the parents and the child to avoid confusion. clear things up with your parents so they could understand you better and vice-versa. it won't solve everything but it will at least clear the air of misunderstandings.
