Here at our place, it seems something common for anyone to have one. Of course, most of them are already modified so that they could play games from the Memory Stick Pro Duo and no longer depend on those UMDs. They would just download games and load it on their Memory Sticks that would be either four Gigabytes or higher. If its popular, I guess its not that much popular as I have read most casual gamers would go for Nintendo's DS or even so for the DSi which now has additional multi-media features. The gaming library for that hand held simply accommodates all ages, from children to young adults. PSPs on the other hand would often cater to young teens and above. Gaming is also different with the DS since some games would often consider the capability of the touch screen. If your daughter wants a DS, it seems like a good idea. DS here is more affordable compared to PSP and they also use that third party item, R4 I think, that would let them play numerous games too. Games are still around for gamers to buy but, if you don't want to spend as much, gamers would opt for the modified ones.

Both of my girls wanted a DS too, but I was thinking what can the DS really do ? I want to spend my money in the right way instead of on something that cannot do a whole lot. I have seen some really low priced DS's on craigslist but than I changed my mind. I thank you for taking the time to respond to this discussion and happy mylotting to you as well.

I have read a few reviews regarding which hand held is better and it all goes down to what the user would prefer in the long run. For multimedia features, PSP boasts on that aspect. Being able to play videos, music files, view images, browse the net are all possible with the PSP aside from the gaming feature that it was designed for. Nintendo's DS doesn't grant video and audio play but, you can still have that with the use of a third party application. For gaming library, the Nintendo DS gets more advantage since it can accommodate children games as well as those other games that are aimed for older gamers. The PSP on the other hand seems more oriented with teens up. For gameplay, the PSP provides the usual button screen capability that other handhelds of before utilized while Nintendo's DS features a mic and a touch screen which some games really take advantage of. Hand held design would seem not favourable for the PSP due to its screen being exposed to possible scratches while the DS can fold itself and grant the screens more durability. On the other hand, being that 'bar' type of a hand held, the PSP is covenient and more satisfying when it comes to screen size. Looks durable also, especially the series 1000s. Some issues that I have heard from the DS, especially on the lite version would be on the hinges experiencing wear and tear.. Now, try comparing Sony's PSP 3000 and Nintendo's DSi, I heard that DSi even has a built in camera along with the other multi-media capabilities

i don't think i would allow my kid to have that one.not in his age. i uploaded some eduactional games for him to learn and have fun at the same time. tv viewing and use of psp to kids should be regulated.

I know some people do not like to let their children play with games. I like them myself I think that is why I tend to allow it. For example when I was young my dad played them so I think that rubbed off on me, I think in the end it is up to the parents and or parent what they want. Take care and happy mylotting to you as well.

I don't know about the PSP but the Nintendo DS I think can be hooked up with an N64, or something. Check into that before assuming I'm right though, one of those can do something like that. I don't know how popular the PSP is now but I'd check to see if there is any games you think your daughter would like, maybe run it by her without telling her the name of the system, or anything.

I do not have a Nintendo 64 but we have in the past. I want to get another Nintendo Gamecube because I think they are awesome. I wanted to get a Wii but I have not been able to come up with the money yet. Take care and thanks for taking the time to respond to my discussion.

I want to get one of those eventually myself. There was a site that I found it for cheaper then other sites, but I can't remember the name of it now. I guess that the system will have to wait though.

I knew that the PSP had a lot of features but I did not know it could get on the internet. To me I am wondering if it needs to be modded in order to get online? Or is it like a wireless thing.? I need to do some research on this to find out more info today while I am online. Thanks and happy mylotting to you.
