Are hand made gifts a thing of the past?

You know I do receive some hand made gifts from my children, and I have a good friend that does beading she made me some beautiful ornaments for the Christmas Tree. They really are a treasure because they're such a personal gift when someone takes the time and effort to make them. I value the hand made items way more than any store bought items,.. though I am always thankful to get a gift either way.

Im not sure that they are a thing of the past, but they are getting very scarce. My sister's little granddaughter always sends me home made cards. They are wonderful to receive even tho not masterpieces. I have another friend who is brilliant at making candles at home. They have wonderful designs, colours and fragrances. He often tells me I should try my hand at it, and who knows, I just might!

It is beautiful. I believe that persons does not appreciate hand crafts anymore and because of this the value that place on it is less. My mother used to crochet for a living and her pattern and designs used to have persons coming for them to be send aboard. I have not seen anyone crocheting as much as when I was growing up. I believe that the emphasis that are place in schools is that these are things of the past and so no one will be interested. Even art and craft seems to be inactive. I love to see hand made crafts because it help you to appreciate the person who are making it because the time and the loves that they put in what they are making shone right through it.

The last time i was given a hand made gift was last year they were dresser mats to stand my make up and perfume on.They were made by a 70 year old lady who lives in our street,made with cotton so very small designs on them.So i made her a hand made card to say thank you as she knew that i had lost my things for my dresser what my nans friend had made me befor we moved.

I think hand made gifts are sooo cool... Last christmas my son and I recieved hats and scarfs, and little socks, from my aunt... I was soo suprised.. It was one of the nicest gives I recieved in a long time.. Its easy to go to the store and buy something, wrap it up, and then forget about it.. But for someone to sit their and make a give a gift, there is so much more throught and charactor in the gift.. I have in the past made cross-stiched pictures for people.. I just have not had the patience, time, or all of the supplies that I need to do it.. Maybe one day..

i make a number of my own gifts that are given to teachers, friends and family members. we dont have a ton of extra cash and i am pretty creative, so this way we kill two birds with one stone. i have fun making it and it usually doesnt cost much.

It use to be that back 20 and 30 years ago alot of things that we got at Christmas were hand made. Now a days its easier to run to the store and get something then to find someone that makes it or to make it our selves. I happen to make alot of things myself, and run a small shop offline and sell items that I make. I learned when I was 8 years old how to Knit. I also learned how to embroider. So I sell both of those types of things in my shop. I make alot of hand knit kids balls, as well as catnip balls for cats. I even grow my own catnip so I know that folks get the best in what I make. I crochet scarfs. I also make knit, hats, baby booties, slippers, and dollies, as well as pillows. Then you have what I sew and what I do in plastic canvas. So believe me, I keep myself busy along with taking care of my family, and running a dog kennel.

I love handmade gifts. I used to make baskets and stuff. I haven't done something like that in a long time to. I just don't have the patience and energy to do something like that anymore. But they are thoughtful and nice gifts too.

im pretty young and i have always been creative and liked to keep my self occupied. i do knitting, french knitting, croceting(cant spell), cross stitching and card making. at the minute i am doing card making but i do find that i am not very imaginative so i do struggle a little but also some of the things like peel offs, stamps and equipment can be pretty expensive but i was lucky that my aunt sent me a load of stuff down for me earlier this year=].
i tend to have a habit though of, for example - i would stamp the same image tones of times then pant it then cut it out then do another image and so on. and then make a lot of things quilling and then cut around my peel offs so they are all individual so i tend to do all that but it is not very often that i seem to actually make any cards=]

It's not a thing in the past, it just some people now days has little time and creativity to make one. I am one of them. When it's time for presents, I'll storm the gifts shop and made them wrap one for me (see, they even wrap it, I don't have time to do it myself)

I love handmade items, especially the one made by my love ones. They are full of thought and love and only has one in this world, made just for me. If I can find time, I want to do it myself too.
