| Help For A Barking Dog | | | | You guys all had such great comments and gave such great ideas when I posted a discussion about how to help keep my dog calm during a storm I thought you would be able to help with something even more important that will be happening soon. Right now I live in the country and whenever someone comes to the house or goes by the house the dog barks to alert me that something or someone is there that isn't supposed to be there. He's a great watchdog. But in a few weeks I will be moving to an apartment in town with him that is the apartment above the landlord. The problem is, what can I do to quiet my dog when he starts to bark that will be very effective? The apartment is right by a school so there will be a lot of people walking by all the time, and until the dog gets used to that, because it will all be brand new to him, I need for him to listen when I tell him to be quiet or the landlords will get upset. I don't want anything to cause me to get into trouble or make them say I have to get rid of the dog. Like I said I know that in time he will adjust, but in the meantime I need an effective way to teach him to be quiet when people go by and until he learns I need him to listen to me when I tell him to be quiet. You guys were so great with the other discussion and I need your help once more with this. You have no idea how much I will appreciate any and all idea that I could try and would help me and the dog out. Thanks so much.~D | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

| | hi, you may want to purchase an item that has a low frequency that is heard only by dogs. i forgot what its called but, it produces a sound that's only heard by dogs. and they dont bark when they hear that. although your neighbors may be weirded out since all the dogs in the neighborhood will stop barking when you turn on that device. just try to google it. hope that helps. | | | | | | | seven74 (121)

| | There is also an anti-bark collar that you might want to try out. Just google it and you'll find many results. Good luck with that. It is rather effective as my friend used it before on his Doberman who wouldn't stop barking at strangers who walk past their house lol. | | | | dfinster (1860)

| | I bought a collar for my dogs to quiet their barking habit. It's not a "shock" collar, but one that emits a very high-pitched sound whenever they barked. It only lasts for a split-second, but very effectively stopped their barking. It did not appear to hurt their ears, either. They simply looked rather confused right after barking. It did work very effectively, I might add. We lived in a townhouse condominium and right next door to the president of the association. They were sticklers for QUIET! I received a rather nasty email from them (no, they didn't have the nerve to talk to me in person about this, the sleezes) when my mother died. The email came on the day of my mother's funeral. I was her legal representative, so I was away quite a bit in the week leading up to her death then for three days afterward. That email couldn't have come at a worse time! My female Maltese had just had puppies 2 months earlier, so we had six dogs in all. I emailed them back with what had been going on that day and they couldn't have been humbler! I'm glad I made them feel bad! Anyway, back to your issue. The collar I bought came from PetSmart. I'm sure they sell them in every pet store. They come in three sizes, too. It worked and didn't appear to harm the dogs any. Like I said, they just seemed confused when the collar went off, but worked very well at stopping their barking. | | | | | | | | | | Apartment Rentals Find Local Furnished & Unfurnished yellowpages.com | add comment | | | |
