Hotels and Lodging.. Do you find hotels and motels and apartments are expensive?

Hi ..As my lodging I stay at a place called "Extended Stay Hotel" ..their motto is where you can "stay and stay" ..and believe it or not..it's one of the most affordable places in New Jersey to stay but it takes quite a chunk of my pay to stay..
What are some of the most inexpensive hotels you have stayed in? Do you think if you pay more you get more? Here I pay so much ..and there is no ammenities.
What have been some of your experiences with hotles? Any bad ones that make you not want to return?

When I began traveling I stayed in international youth hostels and backpacker hostels. I did some camping in my tent. I now tend to stay in locally owned guest houses and in usual looking accommodation. I stayed in a tree house in Belize, a castle in Germany and a moored sailing ship in Sweden. I stayed in an expensive hotel in Istanbul in Turkey at my ex boyfriend's suggestion. I worst place I stayed was a guest house in Sumatra that had mosquitoes, bed bugs, flees, mice and rats.
