As a former journalist, I understand completely the 'slant' taken by reporters on their stories. Especially
human interest stories which is what my interview tomorrow is all about.
When I highlighted my VOICE in my discussion I meant that as opposed to my FACE so people would
have the fact sink in that it was RADIO and not TV, an easy misinterpretation to make as we are more of
a tv geared society than radio. Everyone but you understood that and I knew they would which is why I
didn't spell it out any further.

Now. As to the the 'slant' being taken on the story, when I said "....an on air telephone interview about how friendships grow, blossom and change our lives, all from one serendipitous connection online." I was practically quoting word for word what the reporter told ME this morning about the 'slant' of the interview THEY WANTED and hence their interest. The fact that I also started an online college fund for the kids will of course
be part of the interview but is not THEIR main interest in having the interview at all. I did make it clear before I even agreed to let them have their interview that I would be able to talk about the fund. So so much for me being on a glory train eh?

Now about who's idea it was. Here's what you actually said when this first came up:
"...What to do?? We need to start some kind of fund raising event for her family I think. Those kids are gonna need lots of help. We need to do something straight away. Contact me and maybe we can put our heads together and come up with something like a college fund for them. What do you think?"
Here was my response:

So yes, you threw the idea out there, which only served to remind me that I already had the tool to make it happen and so yes, I 'took the lead'.
And thanks to many other mylotters who contacted their local papers and such, an interview appeared in a newspaper about Missy and I.

And why is that do you think? Why, in the end when the media wanted to 'run' with this story, did they come to me?
They did it because of my FRIENDSHIP with her. They did it because they had been told how close we were and that I was the
one to speak to about her. Because their stories are about MISSY, not just the college fund. First and foremost they are about MISSY and
the friend she made on the internet that though Missy had never met her, cared enough to do something about Missy's children because of
her love for their mother! Do you get it now? This is not about me. It's not just about the kids. It's about MISSY and an online friendship
she formed that lives on after her passing. THAT'S human interest. That's what the media wants to know about. And yes, I will shamelessy
use the opportunties to promote the chipin site!
Local stories about people suffering loss and needing financial help are a dime a dozen on the news these days. But a story like Missy's
with it's connection to a friendship forged on the net, between people that never met face to face, yet lives on after death IS news in the
Human Interest category and puts a positive note on the net among all the horror stories today about the dangers of the net. We are a
technologically based society now. A positive story like Missy's, despite the tragedy of her death leaving five small children behind
is the kind of story the media loves. It has all the elements of a good story, tragedy, love, friendship, HOPE! Now do you get it?

So for you to say: "I hope you ride the glory train as far as you can, just don't make the kids the last thing you think about like in the statement above." is insulting in the extreme.

She was asked to do it because of her relationship that grew from an online website. She made a point of making sure that she could mention the link to help the children.
I did not get my dander up about her doing this. I and several others are doing what we can to get the message out there and get what money we can for the children. In fact, I'm proud of the fact that one of our own was being asked to do this in the name of the site. The reason for it is that there is so much negative things being said about web sites that have social aspects. This was to let people know that they are not all that way.

WAIT A MINUTE HERE!!! No I didn't do any of the things you are saying. All I did was answer her post and that was it! I NEVER have turned anyone in because I don't like when it is done to me.
