Jacob's Death (Obviously there are Spoilers)  | |  The Season 5 finale saw the mysterious Jacob murdered by Ben and a figure in form of Locke's body, most LOST blogs are refering to it as Jacob's brother, the theory is based on the biblical story of Jacob and Esau.
Now this discussion comes in the form of a question. If jacob could live thousands of years, travel to the mainland when he pleased to bring new people the island and have mystical magical powers. Why could he die a mortal death at the hands of Ben and Esau?

The other guy has now taken the form of Locke and has gotten Ben to kill Jacob which apparently is the loophole, that is that he has to get someone else who was a follower of Jacob to do it although being a follower may not be necessary. It appears that the other guy whom you are taking to be Esau could not kill Jacob for some reason but others could if they could get to him.

| thepohms09 (50) | 7 months ago | good point. it was obvious that 'jacob's Enemy' as he is sometimes known, cannot physically stop jacob judging by the conversation on the beach.
But your theory confusing me, as Ben never met Jacob before he attended in the statue base with 'Esau'. So i presume Jacob appeared for Esau and not Ben. For all we know and ther are clues pointing to this Ben was never meant to be the leader of the others and simply got there by ousting Charles Windmore.
Plus jacob never appears for anyone but the leader of the others and Richard (on island, i mean) so why is Ben the key to his loophole?
Plus does this mean jacob has always had a physical form or only to appear to people he views as important (plus adding to my point before, ben is not important to jacob) or his 'Brother'.

| stealthy (3008) | 7 months ago | I tend to think that Jacob always had a physical form and so could be seen but was in control of the unique aspects of the island to the point that he could prevent except for who you are calling Esau and by taking on Locke's body Esau was able to bring Ben with him and have him kill Jacob. Maybe they will explain it, but they don't always explain things and this may be one they don't. | |
