You are all aware of the prostests over the just conducted presidential election in Islamic Republic of Iran. Why is the government trying to silence the opposition at all cost? Will Iran be the same again? What are the implications of this post election dispute on middle east, the rest of the world and especially the United States of America?

iran has a unique set up of governance system. it conducts election for presidency but it still has a supreme leader that is nnot subject to election. it attempts to blend democracy and autocracy. i think the set up has worked for quite a long time effectively. and now, the first time that the election is highly disputed and contested. the decision is not on the hands of the people, it lies in the intervention of the supreme leader.

I feel that even the so-called supreme leader of Iran is trying to be cautious. With the bulk of the voting population of Iran being young men and women who are ever willing to experiment, the current political system cannot survive for long. How long I cannot say precisely.
