It's been almost 8 years since I graduated from the university with an IT degree. Since then I been working with several IT companies that really pays well but since I started working with the government, I truly found my passion for humanitarian service. My work requires me to travel to desolate places and help out in making poor and remote communities resilient against disasters. But here's the catch the pay is good but never comes close to what I earn working in the corporate jungle. So my parents and other people are telling me Im foolish in wasting my potential and time for such work when I should be working in an air conditioned offices instead of the rural areas knee deep in dirt. Should I listen to them or not?

I would continue to work with IT. Apparently you enjoyed it enough to go to school. If you feel the urge to work in an office it's up to you. The more life experience you get the better. Although money doesn't buy happiness, you could be making twice as much but not be happy, find a job you like and you'll realize it's not a job its a calling. Then it would feel like you never worked a day in your life.

The question is, Do you like what you do now? if the answer Yes, then you have no doubt about doing it. working with government have a lot of benefits and it will help you in the future... a little less then what you usually get but you love what you do then you are in the right pot. However, if you working in air conditioning office, it doesn't mean you will stay there forever right? u will get bored and then stress out... so think again. However, follow your heart and what you feel about this job, dont listen to other ... u are old enough to make your own decision, so good luck
