Prior to being traded for by the Lakers in 2008, Gasul played for the Memphis Grizzles where he holds franchise records for points, total rebounds, shot blocks and career games played. He also won the Rookie of the Year for the Grissliez in the 2001-2002 season. After playing for a non-contender for so many years, Gasol as aching win an NBA title .

Gasol had to be the steal of the century in the NBA. Lakers got him for next to nothing. Gasol was tired of being a great player on an awful team. I can't blame him for wanting out. At the time I thought the conspiracy theorists were going to go nuts. It appeared to be just too good for the league. Suddenly the oldest rivalry in the game was going to be alive and well with a Lakers vs Celtics final. Pau has fit in with the Lakers really well. It's still Kobe's team though. Gasol does his part but Kobe led this team to the promised land. I don't think there is any real doubt about that.

There is only one person in the league that would really fit into the disccussion's title of "Best Player of the Season"...Mr. Kobe Bryant, he even outbest the 08-09 Most Valuable Player Lebron James for being the best player this season... He's stats in the final were really amazing except the FG percentage but, but miss or not, it was really Kobe who made all thing possible for the Lakers to win the Championship match against the Orlando Magic... His Game 5 stats are 30pts. 6 rebs, 5 asts, 2 stls, 4 blks... And he did average 32.4 pts, 5.6 rebs, 7.4 asts, 1.4 stls & 1.4 blks in the final series... Is there anyone more deserving than him to be called 'The Best Player of the Season'... Surely not Lebron!

I agree with you. Pau Gasol had an awesome season and is an awesome player. He deserves an award and he's like the only person except Ariza and Fisher that Kobe trusts.
